I'm always dying, and don't know what to do
Hi, i'm in chapter 3 atm, and for almost every fight i encounter, noctis gets downed and needs to be helped on his feet by a team member. I'm using Ignis's regroup skill whenever i need healing, but it feels like i'm missing something here. Are the only 2 ways of healing the regroup skill and potions? And why can't i sometimes use potions even if my hp is low?

Any advice regarding defense and healing would be welcome, cause i'm getting frustrated from combat atm.

Use elixirs to fill your hp back up once you've lost too much of your "recoverable" HP bar which is that grey bar where your hp used to be.

Blindside the enemies as much as possible, link strikes do a lot of damage and make you invincible for the duration.

Warp strike away from combat for an easy dodge, look around for a warp point to recover your mp and recoverable hp.

Make sure you're equipping Noctis with his Jacket outfit as taking the jacket off takes around 1000hp off IIRC.

Use accessories to make up for your weak areas, for you, it would be HP.

Holding square/X down makes Noctis automatically dodge every attack that isn't an AOE but it does slowly drain your mp which you can recover by point warping, once you dodge an attack, strike back and you'll do a lot of damage too.

Be aware that using royal arms drains your hp so don't use them to warp strike or attack unless you're confident, use normal weapons until you're comfortable with sacrificing hp.

Yep, only two ways. There is a Ignis perk with which he will heal you once per combat, but it's not much. Note that being in downed state affect your maximum HP, which can't be restored by standard potions - look for ones that claim to restore max HP. Oh, and you can save anyone from danger by just popping potion.

1. Level up, and/or pick your fights better. Maybe you don't want to just do that lvl 62 bounty when you are 10 yourself. Do some quests, farm some centipedes for xp.
2. Play it tactically. Just mashing F and LMB won't cut it. Hide in holding RMB to put enemy attention away from you, circle around enemies, poke that monster attacking your team mate from behind, don't get surrounded etc etc. Counter-strike and blindside link is one of best ways of dealing damage, so look for enemies that ask for one.

sounds like you need learn to use parry/defend/dodging more often...its hard but once you get that skill down pack you get hit less often. plus each time you fall in battle you lose potion of you hp( only way to get it back to full is to rest at camp/hotel i think or if you die using a feather will bring hp up to full once again or using the higher end potions; exilers) make sure you change out you equipement regularly to better ones as you found them. are you applying you ap to the skill section? and eat regularly...cooking is you best friend.

Parry/dodge is very important, specially in later parts of the game, do not press the attack button indiscriminately , focus on dodge and parry and dodge to the back of the enemy to get that blind-link dmg going.

Use restorative items more often

1.Equip Ragnarok
2. Warp strike everything to death

Thats it.

Have fun

No "face tanking". You have to learn to parry or dodge. Invest in a enough Potions for you AND your party. Learn to use "Hit & Run" tactics.

Get your Royal Arm: Sword of the Wise.

This tactic actually works very well for most of the game! It works great for mobs, but doesn't work very well for Boss battles.

I would reccomend looking up the location and getting the Shield of the Just. You dont need to do a dungeon, just walk inside the tomb. Its special properties allows you to put yourself into "Cover" status anywhere you are, makes you incredibly more resiliant, and rapidly recovers your health. It grants +1000 HP and +200 vitality, other defenses, and a massive passive health regen. The downsides is that it reduces your strengh by 100. Honestly though, thats not much of a tradeoff as long as you still get in blindsides/linkstrikes and use your tech bar right. I've been using it ever since I got it

"Equip Ragnarok" works, but relying on a brokenly good dlc item hardly seems like what the Op is looking for.

I had a similar experience. I'm embarrassed to say that it took me quite awhile to realise that I could casually refill my maximum HP with an elixir. Until that point, I was running through dungeons with half max health most of the time. Once I figured that out, I died a whole lot less.

As other have suggested, it also helps a lot to start using that dodge button. Rolling behind enemies makes combat a lot easier, and if you're hurt or disoriented just stop hitting and hold the dodge button until you're clear.

Save your AP and unlock Air Dancing, also note you can just hold the X button and he will basically dodge everything.
