When to play the DLC Episodes?
Do they add anything to the basegame (weapons/clothing) that might be usefull or do they just add to the story?

Do i risk to run into any spoilers if i play them halfway through the main plot (i'm at chapter 9 right now)?

Episode Gladiolus > Chapter 7
Episode Ignis > Chapter 9 but most suggest wait til chap 14
Episode Prompt > After Chapter 11

Episode Gladio: For beating the DLC Episode: a new Weapon and a new skill that for when you play Gladio yourself.
For beating Score Attack with at least 500.000 points: New Outfit for Gladio

Prompto: Beating the DLC: A new Weapon, a new Outfit for Prompto and new Skill for when you play him.

Ignis: Beating the DLC: A new weapon and a "new" Outfit for Ignis.
For playing the DLC Again and find a specific shop that sells three very specific Items (only after you already have beaten the main DLC Story before): A new skill for when you play him yourself "

Havent played em yet but few postings here and there confirm around these chapters. Only one im seeing warnings on is Ignis storyline as it ties into the end game story.

they will spoiler you, there are little spoilers but in episode ignis there is a huuuuge minor spoiler.
i recommand to play the Episode Ignis AFTER beating the Game.
Also i recommend to play after finishing the Episode Ignis to play the ALTERNATE way...

Episode Prompto and Gladio may spoil you as well, but not so hard like Ignis.
If you are in Chapter 9 you can play Episode Gladio,
For Episode Prompto you should wait until you beat chapter 13.

same thing for Comrades, its not only a "stupid" multiplayer, you can play it completly alone but there are indeed many spoilers for the maingame, espacially the endgame.
so if you want to play Comrades aswell, beat the maingame first.

As soon as they leave/return. I strongly suggest playing episode Ignis before continuing from Altissia. Same with Episode Prompto, get on that as soon as he falls off the train.
Thank you very much for all your answers.
i will give episode gladio a try then
I'd hang on Ep Ignis for the moment, before going to Insomnia... or better said after the Altissia mess is over and you arrived at your destination by train and got that lovely chat with you know who.

Played Ep Ignis when peolple suggested but the end cinematic and alt ending spoils stuff.

Just got myself to Insomnia and maybe now I'll play Ep Prompto.

True.

my personal opinion is :

if someone play FF15 really for the VERY FIRST TIME and dont want to be spoiled in ANY way, then the DLCs should be played after beating the Game, but again: this is my personal Opinion
Listen to Ave, and unless you are having performance issues gtfo of the forums as there's always someone that will spoil something for you even without knowing.

Actually, playing episode Ignis before hopping on the train provided a lot of context to his condition and makes it more hurtful to watch. I'd highly recommend it. It doesn't really spoil anything unless you play the additional endings which you don't have to.

They sure do, but for me the end cinematic at ep Ignis... when the credits roll, gave away a mayor change in a character.

this!!! ignis best bro <3
Pretty easy. When a character leaves the party, then play their respective episode. Except for ignis, which is supposed to happen right after Altissia.

I would agree with this. The game itself even warns you about such and asks if you want to return to the title screen instead (if you have not beaten the main game yet).

But as always it is up to the individual and how sensitive one is to even minor spoilers. Some might actually prefer the "spoilers" as they go along. I think most tend to prefer, however, to play them after and have them be additive after the fact. If you ever replay the game you can play the DLC "in order" then.

Ignis credits is the worst spoiler offender, and a vision he has near the end of the DLC is also quite spoilery, although without context it may seem less so.

I kind of agree. Even though Episode Ignis should be played right after Altissia it's end does spoil a few things that aren't supposed to be explained till way after. Still, the other 2 episodes can be played right when Gladio and Prompto leave respectively without the risk of spoilers.
