I beat Iris with lv 9 chocobo with only Curiel Greens (not Sylkis Greens, the best one)
Just buy those greens (The best greens temporarely boost speed, jumping and gliding all at once) and go to the nearby camp, (greens are fed to a chocobo when you rest at camp)
Then go to the races and cheese every race (exept the last hidden race boss, who is pretty much also riding a level 10 chocobo with incredible stamina)
Easiest way to get to level 10 is by just riding your chocobo everywhere, rather then the Regalia (while doing those quests for Wiz) as Chocobo's level by distance traveled.
it's a trick to replenish stamina and also maintain ur speed.
Is that the z key that says halt or is there another button for it? Cause it does slide forward and half the time lurk forward with a spring and the other flat out stop.
Leveling up the chocobo is really helpful, as is eating greens at a camp first. The last race pretty much requires you to have a leveled up chocobo and to eat good greens.
But what you do is sprint and then on the 7th step of your sprint (right before sprint stops) hold jump button to jump and glide a bit. You maintain your sprinting speed while gliding down. So doing that when going down hills is super important.
As soon as you land from the glide pull the Halt button to slide, wait about half a second while sliding and pull the Halt button a second time. That will cause your chocobo to lunge forward out of the slide back to full speed quickly.
The slide and the lunge out of the slide both replenish stamina. As soon as your lunge out of the slide is complete, tap sprint again. Rinse and repeat. Don't spam any of the buttons. There is a rhythm to this method but once you got the rhythm down its 2nd nature. It pretty much keeps you at sprinting speed at all times without running dry on stamina.
Practice this method all the time when riding your chocobo around the world and you will have it in no time. Also I recommend to turn on your Stamina bar in the options menu and watch the button icons in the bottom left to see when the word "sprint" greys out and lights up. That will prevent you from pressing the sprint button to early and help you establish the correct rhythm to maximize your speed.
Jumping after immediately sprint-boosting helps, as the Chocobos glide much faster than they run when on the aerial descent.
But TBH, the real purposes of the races are to purposefully go off-course and look for the feathers lying on the ground. You'll get some custom options for your chocobos that way, won't say anymore!
