Multiplayer Steam and Origin copy?
Hi,

I bought the game on Origin because it was cheaper than on Steam (€10 cheaper in Sweden, was before I realized I could've gotten it even cheaper from GMG).

I'm eventually going to play the multiplayer with a friend, so I'm wondering if anyone knows if there's been any information regarding playing MP when it comes to Steam/Origin?

Perhaps there's been news that I've missed or something.

You're saying I won't be able to play with people using a Steam copy? It's not unheard of, but I hope that won't be the case. I'm going to assume that we're playing on Square Enix's servers, and that it won't be an issue.

At first I thought it would be the same thing as playing their MMO through their launcher vs. having the game on Steam. Then again, that game still requires you to login with your Square Enix account and FFXV likely won't do that.

That's what I mean, yes. I'm assuming that it doesn't matter where you buy the game on PC, but you never know. It's happened before.

it is the case, steam will only play with steam, origin will only play with origin, and windows store will play with windows store AND xbox people , and thats it

xplay between platforms is very very rare, and is discouraged by the industry because the makers of the platforms loose money to other more popular platforms , the makers of the software (games) dont loose money , they only tend to gain with this, but sony, microsoft , nintendo, etc the makers of the consoles will

Well, the retail copy would include a Steam key, so you'd get the Steam version.

no , on pc , its a bit different, but similar at the same time, think of steam, origin, and windows store as consoles, like playstatin , xbox and nintendo. Only if they allow it to , their players would interact with each other like on consoles.

This game has multiplayer? I own it on PS4 and it doesn't there. Granted, it's been about 6 months since I last played it.

Sure, but the difference is that it's extremely rare for games to be sold on both Steam AND Origin. The only "common" exception is Ubisoft's games, but in their case, all Ubisoft games require Uplay anyway and you would find friends and connect through Uplay.

In this case, Square Enix doesn't have their own launcher that you'll use to connect to friends. Steam and retail version will use Steam, but the Origin version will not.

That's where the problem appears. Since we don't connect to the same client or server (like an MMO where you register another account and login), it's likely that those won't be able to play together.

It has co-op, kind of a simpler Monster Hunter in the Final Fantasy universe (not really like MH, but that was the best I could come up with). It got released in November 2017, so if you haven't played for six months, then you've missed it, yeah.

This absolutely comes to mind. However, it's not that usual that games are sold on different platforms, so I don't know if there are a lot more than that.

Still, I'm hoping it'll be possible, but I doubt it. Since we don't create and login with our Square Enix accounts on FFXV, there's no way to add friends that you meet.
