Is it legal to torrent the game if you already own it?

Technically no

I believe it is only illegal if you are distributing it. But I don't see why you would torrent it, chances are the dl is gonna take forever, and when you do get the purchased version there might be issues going from one version to the other.

Also to add onto that, you are technically also distributing it since torrents have you dl and ul files while downloading.

They won't ask if you bought the game before sending you a bill.

Only if you turn off the distribution.

I guess ? If you're using it for your own personal use of course. Don't distribute to others though and you're good.

You're not allowed to share its content. If you're asking if it's legal to download a product you already bought from other sources than intended, then likely yes, but you would have to refer to the laws in whichever country/state you live in.

Since you always upload while downloading with torrents: No. 100% no.

Not if you disable the upload bit from torrent software though.

Since you also upload data while downloading a torrent (even if you disable the uploads you'll upload tiny bits of data), yeah, it's illegal, even if you own the game legally.

You can't disable upload while downloading , you can only slow the speed of upload.

It actually depends on the country. In some countries there are no laws prohibiting digital distribution of cracked video games or whatever, while in others you can go to jail for this.

It would be ILLEGAL, because you would be breaking the Terms of Service.

Don't resort to pirating. At least not yet. Give it a week or so for SE to think things through before you start putting yourself legally at jeapordy.

Sharing is caring babe
it's a grey zone, just don't get caught while doing it ;)

Oh RIP. Nevermind then.

OP, in that case, as some of us have already suggested, just don't pirate and wait it out. I know it sucks that pirates got their hands on the DRM free version of this game while we are stuck with denuvo DRM version AND have to wait another 3-4 days for the game to unlock...but in the meantime, you can voice your concern by letting Square Enix know on their official Twitter / Facebook pages as well as their websites and request removal of denuvo and / or call for an earlier unlock time. Quite a few of us have already done so already.

Nope, from what I think I know shared files are okay but only files that aren’t owned and protected. PC Games fall into you have to own the license category. You might be thinking of emus, those you just need the game physically or proof you own it I believe.
