I was hoping there was an "African or European" setting.

How much distance can an unladen Chokobo glide, anyway?
The entire game is obviously based on metric. I mean it goes from 1 mile to 0.99ft... What? I use metric and even I know feet don't work that way.

AAA game, hides metric under french/spanish language options.

Great job, SquareEnix. UK is the only bloody country in Europe that's still on imperial. :(
They use a mixed system, of both metric and imperial because they can't let go of dumb traditions. And its not even the only English speaking country either. Ireland use metric...

Use that mod from Nexus. It does work properly, with a few minor problems in the bestiary last I checked.

Yeah, I read that the mod does something weird with the language though in reddit. Like something with subtitles. I can't remember exactly but I was put off.

Haven't noticed anything of the sort in over 100 hours. Playing with JP audioand English subtitles.
The "problem" in the bestiary is just that the height/size gets replaced directly to metre from feet, without actually convertingthe lengths. No other issues

I found it. Text in cgi sequences uses Brazilian Portuguese subtitles. It mattered more before I finished the game, though. Now it matters a lot less

What it never did that for me. It went from I think 1. something to 0.99 feet, Which was the reason why the mod was so important to me. Non decimal based units are so nonsensical.
Does it really matter if it's the Metric or Imperial system when the distance isn't even properly measured in the first place?

Yes. Yes it does. Haha. It's an annoyance, not a game breaker. I mean even for fish and stuff. I have no idea what the length or weight I'm catching. Like 90% of the world can't conceive dimensions in descriptions of stuff for the game. It's just silly.

I forgot about the length & weight for fish being different. For distance driving the Imperial system is competely pointless, they can call the units Zorg for all it matters.

For weight, you should be able to do that in your head very easily or at least get a rough estimate that is close enough. 1 pound = .45 kg so in your head just note that it's a little bit less then 50%... If you see a fish that weighs 30 pounds in your head you should automatically think, that's a little bit less then 15 kg, I'd guess without doing any sort of conversion or math that it'd be about 14 kg.

Length is where I sorta agree with you, you just need to remember that 1 foot roughly equals .3 meters, which is close to 1/3. So this is a bit harder, but you can convert a rough estimate by just changing feet to meters and taking a 1/3 of the number. Say your fish was 30 feet, you can rough estimate without thinking too much that it would be about 10 meters.

As an American, I'm so used to doing rough estimate conversions in my head because I have friends from all over the world, I just got used to using both systems of measurement. If I'm talking to an American friend, I'll use imperial system, if I'm talking to one of my european buddies I'll convert to 24 hours & the metric system for them.

But yeah, they really should have an option to switch back and forth between it.

Why the f. is a pound .45kg??? Just Why? Why not call it 450 grams!!
A bit less? Roughly less than half? Just why???
1 foot is .3 meters??? Why the f is it 0.3 meters?

Why the hell would anyone want to do math in their head when walking, driving, cooking, shopping, instead of getting exact measurements? The imperial system does not make sense and never did make sense before either. I feel like throwing up when someone says "Oh just use two and a half ounces" or "It's about 300 feet ahead".

It's like, you have a hand with five fingers and the beer foam when poured in the glass needs to be 2- 2.5 fingers, instead of calling it like it is, 2.5 fingers, you call it a "twange". And as a reference, in mechanics when you need a 3 cm piece of metal you start asking for a "twange". Now every f one of your colleagues have to start guessing what a f twange is and lose time and money / productivity , just because of your crappy measurement system.

And to take it a step further, you and four other friends go to a bar and the bartender asks how many drinks would you like and you answer "twange times two pal" or "double twange", and that's why we're all f now cause nobody understands anybody and you try to look like a smartarse but it only makes you look bad.

A smart man once said:
"It’s not that I can’t deal with it. The problem is that irritating thought process that’s going on in my head every time someone tells me some object is 6 feet long and weighs 8 pounds. Even though brain.exe is able to yield somewhat acceptable approximations, I hate not being able to come up with a result that feels correct enough without the use of a calculator or conversion tables."

And for us OCD's out there, not being able to tell or know EXACTLY how big something is or how much it weighs or how far it is, is simply put, blasphemy!

The brits invented the imperial system mainly for alcohol/wine as they wanted to make sure they get their gallons of wine. This system is so convoluted that a gallon in the UK is not even the same thing as a gallon in the US which uses the Queen Anne gallon which is 17% smaller than the british gallon which weighs approximately 277.421 cubic inches.

What the f is this? And why does humanity need any of it when we have the almighty metric system which is very precise and EXACT?

Mod Request; We need twanges.
Tbh I wouldn't care about the units being imperial if it was like that for everyone, but if metric is available for some based on what language they speak it is just dumb and lazy.

Heh, can't say I've seen that happen ,then again, maybe I haven't seen any of them post patch to metric.
