Mods for non-steam users?
Loving what I see in the workshop for this game. Is there any sort of repository for mods for people with the other versions of the game?

I'm curious about this too. Square talked a lot about the Mod Organizer's integration with Steam Workshop, but there was no mention of if you can make a mod in the Mod Organizer, and then export it out, not to Steam Workshop, and then upload that mod to, using the most obvious example, Nexus Mods. No one has uploaded a mod there since the mod tools dropped and it's beginning to bug me that mods have popped up here, but not there.

There haven't been many mods on Nexus to begin with, considering it's been 3 months or so. I think someone did upload a simple weapon texture there recently.

I've seen methods to get Steam mods into non-Steam for a few popular games, but that was a couple years ago and who knows if such still works. And what someone figured out for one specific game might not work for another.

So you'd have to look around and figure it out I guess.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be away other than either making one yourself or hoping they're shared by someone else. So I'm pretty much stuck with the waiting game since making my own is outside of my ability.

I've been trying to learn to make my own but the tool as is, is so llmited/irritating (no direct game file access etc) and constant "beep, failed to compile" to use that it doesn't feel worth it if you don't already know what you're doing. I'm going to continue to try to learn 3D modeling in a general sense in case they open up the tools a bit more but am not feeling overly optimistic re: my motivation.

The tool seems like its been so much of a hassle as is currently. I hope there are updates that make it more versatile in the future. But I get you about the motivation thing.

Lol other versions include the Windows store and Origin versions. The mod organizer was released for use for those as well as the update to include the use of mods so very likely in this case.

I was wondering how Windows/Origin shares their Organizer made mods. I know ppl can make them to use in their own game, but do they have some system for easily sharing/inserting into their game, like Steam-workshop?

You can build your mod in MO and then take that ".ffxvbinmod" file from the bin > General folder within your assets folder and drop it into Documents > My Game > Final Fantasy XV > Steam > "Numbers" > mod and then load up the game.

This works perfectly well, but maybe someone could test it without a Steam version. Maybe just try putting a "mods" folder after your Final Fantasy XV folder and then placing an already built .ffxvbinmod inside it. The only issue i see with this is, inside the "mods" folder there should be a binmod.list (reads as a text file with your mods on basically.) I suppose you could make that file, but leave it blank as i thought maybe i had to input my mods name into that list, but turned out it just crashes the game and once you take the line out it works fine. (I'm assuming it just edits itself.)

TL;DR

Using mods with Steam outside of workshop is 100% possible and with other versions, probably possible, but more trail and error needed to figure out how.

That's why I asked in the first place. Naturally I assumed you'd at least be able to download them manually at Nexus Mods but no one has uploaded to there. I figure it just boils down to waiting it out from here unless there is somewhere else.

I know you can build and add them locally, I just don't have the skills to do so. But from what I've heard, its been a hassle with the mod tools so far?

It's not too bad, although they could've done a lot of things much better, like;

Being able to use the in-game assets. (Seems like a huge oversight)
Better log/error output. (decrypting those are a nightmare.)
Less limitations on who and what we can edit. (You can only make outfits for the guys, for example.)

Also it's super sketchy that the files are uploaded to their server and redownloaded to us to build the mod. It's strange that couldn't be handled our side with the tools, it's like they want to spy on what we're doing. *tin foil hat at the ready*

Other than that i'd say it has been pretty fun personally. (Apart from rigging a custom character into the game. That's a pain because if something goes wrong then everything seems to go wrong.) I've managed to rig LIS Max Caulfield into the game (My workshop item - shameless plug. ;)) but it's still looking a little janky and the fingers are the worst. Getting a weapon in-game though is super easy even someone with zero knowledge of 3d programing could do it. (Obviously knowledge helps a lot though.)

All I want are:

--Ignis' "hair down" hair that works with all outfits, not just stuck to an outfit
--new outfits for the bro's they can all wear, not just recolor/retextures of existing.

I don't care about weapon models nor do I care about replacing the bros/anyone with another model/character entirely.

I've so far seen a few outfit mods (like that Regis suit one) but they're still janky enough I wouldn't want to use them in game outside of screenshotting. If it's that difficult for even knowledgeable people to put an outfit on Noct (or anyone else) while keeping Noct's head/body as it should be, I doubt I'll be getting there any time soon. ;p (edit - I'm not putting down the work on those outfits, btw. It's amazing what they achieved. But it just showcases how limited/difficult it is to change/perfect certain things at the moment with what SE allows)

And yeah...the upload/download process for compiling is ugh. Hiding or spying, whatever the reason, it's just ugh.

Now while i do not know of a way of downloading mods from the steam workshop the steam version of the game. There is a way if you download them from say nexus mods by going to C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\Packages\39EA002F.FINALFANTASYXVforPC_n746a19ndrrjg\LocalState you will be able to find a folder called "mod" in which you can install mods you may have downloaded.

Dohcboy Jun 12, 2020 @ 2:54pm
I tried adding just .ffxvbinmod file and also with the .dat and it still doesn't work for me.
