I'd recommend putting it as a double-tap or long-press on one of the dpad directions or the start/back so you can still keep the normal button maps in place and not activate it by accident so easily.
But while in Offline mode if I r-click on the demo title all I see is this: https://i.imgur.com/TmANJwG.jpg
Despite having it for over 9 years, I'm not very savvy re: Steam features/how to use Steam. I just d/l, install, go offline, play. I'm using a wireless xbox-pc controller with some driver installed that hubby gave me a long time ago and the game picked it up without me having to configure anything in Steam at all.
Edit: anyway, it's ok. I'll look around and try to figure it out, thanks again.
What you might need to do first is click Steam on the toolbar, go into the settings and head down to the Controller tab. You should see a box marked 'General Controller Settings'. Once you click that, it'll open up a window where you should see a bunch of checkboxes. You'll need to turn on the configuration support option for whichever controller you're using (XB/PS4/other).
After that, the option to change the controller config should appear just under 'Set Categories' on the right-click context menu.
Sorry I didn't think of making sure to tell you about that part of the process first (and for taking nearly an hour to realise you'd replied).
