Low FPS? Here's the performance effect of all settings in-game
I have a Ryzen 1800X and an R9 Fury. Not the best of setups but I expect to get something like 60 FPS at 1440p with a few things turned up a little. I do.

Please keep in mind, I went to Radeon Settings and set max tessellation to 6x. That probably keeps the worst of GameWorks at bay. Tessellation Mode: Override application settings -> 6x.

But, here are the settings, along with what affects my framerate the most. Your mileage my vary. Also, if you have an NVIDIA card, update your damned drivers. You may need to jump in and out of the menu and wait for the frame rate to settle. I don't know why it needs this. Sometimes turning a setting down can impart a massive jump that doesn't revert if you turn it back up.

* Resolution: Yep. Going from 100% to 75% is a stupid-high frame rate jump but of course the game starts to look like a potato.
* Assets: Someone find out for me because I can't see a difference. You'd think there would be.
* Model LOD: High to Average is a huge FPS jump. Average to Low not so much.
* TRAM: I really did not expect this to do anything but going from High to Low does affect my framerate, but small. From Highest to Low is a few FPS.
* Anisotropic Filtering: Usually a very small hit but for some reason it's a few FPS in this game.
* Geomapping: On to Off is a small jump.
* Lighting: Highest to High is a big jump. From High to Average doesn't do much.
* Shadows: Same as lighting. Highest to High is big. High to Average does almost nothing.
* Ambient Occlusion: Average to None is a big jump. Average to High doesn't do much. This setting seems very busted. Low to High SSAO is usually a fair jump, and turning it off is also a fair jump. In this game? Nope.
* Anti-Aliasing: Very small.
* Motion Blur: Varies but medium to small.
* Filtering: Average to Low is the big jump. The others don't have a very big effect so go above Average if you don't mind the hit.
* HairWorks: Don't know. Main characters don't use it and I haven't found the buffalo yet.
* VXAO: Can't use on AMD cards.
* TurfEffects: Holy♥♥♥♥♥♥ Avoid.
* ShadowLibs: Can't use on AMD cards.

This game doesn't run too stunningly well -- I'd love an average frame rate over 60 -- but my video card is a tad old now for running games at 1440p. But, I have to hand it to them: it's a lot more stable than FF13 and, unlike Assassin's Creed: Origins, the settings actually do something.

But, perhaps a driver update can fix that. Here's hoping they help us Fury folk out.

Seems pretty much exactly in line with what I've experienced messing with the settings. Definitely a good post for people to reference. For me the geomapping had a pretty big performance increase turning it off, about 5-6 fps.

I find it very frustrating. Cant seem to get the game to stop hitching badly no matter what settings I use. I get 60fps with most settings maxed, but the game studders constantly. I also cannot see a differnce with the high end assets on or off, in either performance OR visuals, maybe its busted.

What kind of visual difference do you see from the Model LOD, filtering, and turfeffects. Very curious about your opinion visually on these settings.

What have you noticed visually with geomapping on/off?

Very little, apparently that is tesselation and from what I can see it only affects terrain. I don't see any benefit to keeping it on /shrugs

Interesting, thanks. I thought that was turf effects tho?

Turf is for grass, it makes more dense grass so the ground looks less barren. I have that off. Geomapping/tesselation will affect the geometry detail of the terrain to potentially make it smoother or more detailed in certain areas but I honestly can't see enough of a graphical improvement to justify leaving it on since it's saving me about 5fps.

If I run into a good and very visible example of what it affects I'll post comparison screenshots, or maybe someone else can do that. But if I'm having trouble seeing anything happen visually and it's degrading performance by 5fps, no thanks.

I see, thanks. My normally stable FPS completly tanked at the giant bird segmant also. Have you noticed this?

Eh. I noticed someone's elbow lose some slight definition from average to low. Someone's sandals got a little more blocky. The trees are affected much more. They did pretty good at hiding the effect but it is noticeable and I don't think the hit from Average to High is worth it.

Yep I got a noticeable fps drop during that segment too. Probably about half of what I was getting right before that happened.

TRAM has to do with Textures, as it says on the description, its a VRAM and Memory hog, if you dont have a GPU with 6GB or higher VRAM along with 16GB RAM it'll cause performance problems on the Highest setting

High is a very good balance.

ShadowLibs does nothing except lower you FPS

TurfEffects smoothens out foliage animation, but makes your character walk through them instead of stepping on them (with it turned off, grass moves as the characters step on it). Add the performance hit and it's not worth it.

Just from sight testing you came to that conclusion about shadowlib? genuinly curious.

I walked around and didn't notice any difference. I took screenshots (the uncompressed screenshot option steam has for the screenshots) with it off and on and didn't notice any difference.
