Sudden fps drops and stuttering. (HELP)
I am playing at 1080p on high settings, I originally tried playing at 1440p but had the same issues so I thought a lower resolution would make it better. I even lowered the shadows to average and put the AA to FXAA, I'm thinking maybe the TRAM needs to be lowered but I want some input first.

Here are my specs:
OS: WIN 10 Pro
Processor: Ryzen 5 2600 @3.40ghz up to 3.9ghz boost
Ram: 16gb (2x8gb) @3000mhz
GPU: RTX 2060 6gb vram

I'm using an RTX 2070 and can't maintain 60fps at 1080p with moderate settings. You just simply wont get better performance out of this game.

It's annoying it's hard to know what the issue is. Is it the optimization or is it something in our set ups. Because there are some people with the same specs that get better performance, its weird.

Well, what do you have your TRAM set to in the first place?

Since your vram is 6GB I'd definitely have it set to no more than High vs. Highest, but other than that I dunno if it would make a huge difference.

Edit: Lighting setting is what deals with reflections, turning that lower might help a bit for some.

TRAM is set to high

Edit: even turning down settings to average preset the in game fps ui still shows my gpu memory running around 90%

i think this game had a terrible optimized, i know my spec not that beast but with Ryzen 3 2200g, RX570 , 16Gb Ram but can't even mantain average setting in a 768p monitor only. Those stuttering really annoying, fps mostly 50-60 all the time but kinda lag and stutter i don't know why.

Have you tried running the game with the in-game fps turned off. For some people that actually causes fps issues.

Edit: also if you have browser windows open while playing and have the hardware acceleration enabled, could try turning acceleration off so it's less hit to gpu? I feel like in Win10 that browser setting causes weird stuff occasionally.

I can't speak for other browers, but Hardware Accerlation in Firefox (and to a lesser extent, Opera) cause loads of issues, even on Win7. I don't even know why the option exists, when all it does is create problems.

Does the stuttering look like this?

Sort of, but not not as bad. Doesn't pause that long.

Actually turns out it's an issue with the Steam version, I downloaded both the Microsoft Store version and the Origin and they both run extremely smoothly:

Steam version:

lol, wtf is that difference? I wanna buy this game, but allways that I come to the forum I just find issues...
I tested Jack Sparrow version and it works exactly like Steam version, so sad. I'm considering to buy it on PS4 but I had a nice PC and don't wanna play this on a poor PlayStation :(

Maybe your particular Carribean version is using an emulated version of Steam.

So, the Origin version runs ok? All that random freezes disappear? Or at least most of them? Your post has given me a bit of hope about this game :D

Both the Origin version and the Microsoft store version run really well for me on my GTX 1080 and i7-8750h, I downloaded both to test because I was determined to find a fix. The Steam version was hitching and freezing all over the place even on lowest settings.

It’s started happening ever since Steam Workshop was added in. I’ve never even used Steam workshop but it must still be hooking something in in the background that just tanks performance for some PC setups.

If you get another version I’d recommend Origin because the Microsoft Store version is really restrictive, you can’t even add it to your GPU control panel because the files are protected, and it can’t run in True Fullscreen, only Borderless. Origin version has all the same options as Steam version (Except Steam workshop) but runs better.
