Steam Deck Controller issues. (Solved)

I'm not sure if anybody else has this issue but all of a sudden on Steam Deck I can no longer start the game. It starts up fine, gets to the Title Screen but whenever I push the Start Button or the A button nothing happens. I have 2 Steam Decks a 512GB LCD and a 1TB OLED. I tested Sonic Forces on both and the issue occurs on both of them so it has to be a Software issue. Weird thing is it was working flawlessly before now all of a sudden for no apparent reason this happens. It's the only game that has this issue on Steam Deck.


I'm probably not going to get an answer here but if anyone sees this does anyone know how to resolve this?

Crazy how it also happening to mines too when staring up the game when i redownloading it. I couldn't find a way to fix this tho

Same here, would love to be able to play that game i bought YESTERDAY, me and my luck...

Same here. My son suddenly can not play Sonic Forces anymore because of the same issue. I already tried a lot of controller fixes, different contoler layouts and settings and also deactivated bluetooth - nothing worked. Touchsceen os working so you can start game but them you can not control the game. Steam Deck wants tastatur controlls and there is no option to change to Controller.

If anybody has a fix please post. The game should be Steam Deck verified but since yesterday it seem to be broken.

I'm going to Factory Reset one of the Steam Decks to see if that resolves it for now. I'll leave the other one and wait for an update because I have a feeling it has something to do with that. Really annoying as I spent over 4 hours last night going through all the fixes, trying Community Templates trying different Protons trying Desktop Mode, tried everything I could think of and nothing would work.

Factory Resetting the Steam Deck did NOT fix it either so it's an issue with the game so don't bother and you'll only have to install everything from scratch again anyway.

Oh if you have a Micro SD Card remove it before performing the reset but ensure your Steam Deck is powered off first. It'll save you having to install everything from that at least.

Having the same issue, it's like it no longer recognizes gamepads.

It's really weird. It still works as intended on PC but still I would really like to know why this is happening all of a sudden when it was working fine before on Steam Deck. I've told Steam Support about this so they should pass this on to the relevant people.

Guys it works on Proton 8-0-5. I thought I went through everything but I obviously missed that.

what is proton 805?

Proton is basically a layer that enables Windows games to run on Linux wihtout the need of having to port them to it. 8-0-5 is the Proton version. To change the Proton version go to properties next to the little joypad icon of the game you want to play select Compatibility then select the prefered Proton version from a drop down list.

Apparently proton Experimental fixed the issue.
