Also can you go more in detail on "now the game doesn't want to open anymore". Like do you see the Sega logo?
The instructions on the site you linked will never work on a legit Steam version. Fortunately the modloader will allow importing save files but not from the cloud which again is to prevent issues like what you just got.
To import a save file just copy the file into the exec folder and rename it from "savedata.xml" to "cpkredir.sav" (Make sure you also change the file extension). After that in HedgeModManager under Settings, make sure the option "Enable save file redirection" is enabled. This will prevent the game from syncing with the Steam Cloud so you don't cause damage to your unmodded save file.
If the option was already on and you had the exact same issue when replacing the save file using the instructions from that link, it is possible that save file you deleted might still be fine and it just corrupted your modded save instead. I would keep your old save file in the case you do find a way to fix it.
If that doesn't work, check if you have a "cpkredir.sav" file. Without permanently deleting anything, move it in your "savedata/<bunch of numbers>" folder and rename the old "savedata.xml" file to something else and rename the "cpkredir.sav" file to "savedata.xml".
If that does not work, you can try loading the save file you downloaded, but that will require the modloader to be installed and it being located in the exec folder under the name "cpkredir.sav". Putting the file in the "savedata/<bunch of numbers>" folder will actually do the reverse and will wipe the save file entirely.
If you want to know why you need the modloader to use the downloaded save file, its because the game encrypts the save file by per user so you can't share the file with someone else. The modloader has a feature to make the game decrypt the save file regardless who last saved it, but this only applies for fallback saves which "cpkredir.sav" is one.
EDIT: Please reread the top part of the post if you already started reading before the edit.
if you want to start clean, also delete the "cpkredir.ini" file. That will reset all the settings to default.
