"The Zeti (ゼティ Zeti?) are recurring creatures in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a fabled race of demons native to the Lost Hex that is lead by their strongest warrior, Zavok."
Then again, according to Sonic Retro, the Deadly Six's Japanese name is '六鬼衆', with '鬼' translating to 'demon'.
Personally, I suspect it's what Sonic Retro seems to imply, that they're based upon Japanese Oni, but aren't supposed to actually be demons themselves.
