Sonic shouldn't have a serious story
to begin with. Edginess should stay in the 2000's and for the 12 years olds.

I hope the next game will be lighthearted like in Mania.

I actually agree on this. I feel the original 16 bit Sonic games had it right in this sense. I mean, back then, the premise was that your main character was a porcupine (of all possible options for a main character) who turned super saiyan (because spikes mean spikey hair, it seems) to attack the Death Star (cuz screw Hollywood sci-fi). If this was premiered today, it'd be instant meme material.... and probably earn itself a few lawsuits on the road as well.

There was no dialogue. It wasn't needed. All you needed to know was displayed right in your face in beautiful 16 bit blast processing (*cough*) power. Heck, we didn't even need to really know why the robots were turned into rabbits and squirrels when we bopped them on their heads. We were too used to them disappearing after the heap of other platformers we played. But, cool with that. More to see, and maybe PETA was happy about that one.

In the end, I feel the current seriousness made the franchise cringe inducing to me, and while I don't totally hate it, I would have preferred to not get it to this point. But now we are here and I fear there's no turning back now.

Finally someone seems to agree with the sentiment that I expressed earlier in this thread. Said comedy is made all the more hilarious when paired with character customization completely incongruous with the tone of the story presented, be they from the base game, the DLC or mods.

I get that humour is subjective and all but I heavily disagree.
This game is far from comedy gold.
I can't think of any funny moments and nothing listed on its TVTropes page made me giggle.
The only thing I found laughable is Infinite's pathetic memeable origin story.

I love it when Sonic games have some seriousness to them when they're not trying so hard or not trying so little.
Unfortunately, I feel that Forces leans on the latter as, like I said before, it's hard for me to take Forces seriously when it failed to be serious.
