A fun bit of obscure lore and/or mini Sonic theory to discuss and think about
...Because I want to discuss something interesting related to Sonic again and even though the activity on this board is pretty low at this point, this is probably the best place to put it:

For awhile I've been working on constructing a complete timeline of Sonic games, closely examining all of them and trying to find a perfect place for all of them. I know it's been done before but all of the ones I've seen have quite a few mistakes and/or don't include the amount of games I intend on including in mine- basically all of them.

Anyway I was recently replaying through Sonic Battle on the GBA, probably my favorite handheld Sonic game, and I noticed a small detail that I'd overlooked when I first played it: When Emerl is fully awakened by Eggman in the final story, at one point he says a message in binary. When I first played it I figured it was just supposed to be a generic indicator that Emerl is being reactivated, he's a robot, blah blah- but when I saw that as I was replaying through it again, it caught my attention. I did some looking online, and it turns out the message actually translates to something along the lines of "Sonic will die in next game." Whether or not this was just the devs joking around, or they had actually planned for one of the most controversial moments in Sonic 06 to happen a whole three years earlier, I don't know, and I also don't know if I can count on Emerl's fourth-wall-breaking message to place Battle right before 06 on the timeline, but it certainly is something to think about.

Also I feel so bad for the people on the forum I looked at which had the translation, the people were discussing it in 2004 before 06 was released and were all really confused because that doesn't end up happening in Heroes or Advance 3. I wonder if any of them remembered Emerl's message when Sonic was killed in 06.

Also if this interested you or you hadn't already seen this and would like to read more little Sonic tidbits, or, you're not interested at all in me clogging up the Forces board with insignificant junk, please give me your feedback and if it's generally well recieved I'll be sure to send some more!

The binary, reportedly '0010101001000101001010101010101010000101010000011011111010101011111011110

'*E*ª…A¾«ï*E*%
ƒ}Wü'

According to people on SonicRetro, however, it translates to the codes used to unlock the character combo cards.

'0101001101001111010011100100100 1010000110010000001010111010010 0101001100010011000010000001000 1000100100101000101001000000100 1001010011100010000001010100010 0100001000101001000000100111001 0001010101100001010100001000000 1000111010000010100110101000101' However, DOES.
I am not sure which one is legitimate and which one is wrong, though.

Huh... I'll do some more looking around and check back here soon. Also it would make a lot of sense if it did translate to the secret codes as Emerl gains access to those cards when you have to fight him as the final boss. Still I'm absolutely positive I saw something saying that the binary translated to what I said above, I guess it was a mistake or some troll?

Update: Ok yep it looks like the Sonic will die translation is completely fake. Unless this...

...actually appears somewhere in the game, it was just a troll post which ironically turned out to predict an event that would occur three years later.

Welp that sure was a disappointing way to start what I hoped would have been a fun little series of discussions on commonly overlooked secrets or plot points :steamfacepalm:

Even if it had translated to that it would not have fit in the timeline. Sonic 06 was meant to be a reboot of the series, but it performed so badly that Sonic Team decided not to follow up with it. Simply put, while all other Sonic games can be tied together into a single history, Sonic 06 is more like an alternate universe and doesn't get included because as far as the other Sonic games go, 06 never happened.
It's likely the reason why Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces all take place on Moebius, Sonic's original home planet, instead of him hopping from different planets without explaination like he does in Sonic Adventure, Sonic Unleashed and Sonic 06 (although Sonic The Comic and Sonic X do attempt to explain Sonic Adventure).
This would have meant that Sonic Battle and Sonic 06 would have no connection to one another, so even though Emerl's message is fourth wall breaking and somewhat accurate to the events in Sonic 06, it would also be something impossible to predict because it does not happen in that universe.

On another note, I hope you're using the original canon for your timeline, when Sonic was originally brown, met Dr. Ovi Kintobor, got his red sneakers, busted a giant hamster ball from surpassing the speed of sound and gaining his blue streamlined look before Kintobor tripped over some wiring, smashed a rotten egg into the chaos emerald controlling machine and transformed into Dr. Ivo Robotnik from the resulting chaos explosion!
