What do you guys think of infinite?
Sonic forces has been out for a short while, and we all know who infinite is at this point.

Personally, he is one of the lamest and most underwhelming sonic villains around, he's definitely a cut above the deadly six, but that's not really hard to beat.

Sonic is perpetually getting stronger, he's able to beat perfect chaos without super sonic, and now he can pull off a super sonic double boost without the chaos emeralds too.

With this in mind, infinite was underplayed considering how strong sonic is at this point. Sure, he did defeat him the first time, but only with the help of superior villains (minus zavok).

His power source is finite despite the namesake, it feels like it would have been better if infinite could have overthrown robotnik at the end, providing sonic with a threat he truly cannot defeat without his friends. Even if that is a cliche at this point.

Think about it, modern sonic didn't really need the help of classic or original in the final boss fight.

His backstory is pretty bad too but that's not the point.

It seems his character can still be salvaged from this point, sure his boss fight sucked but it looks like he tried to keep fighting and the phantom ruby restrained him. It does give potential for a future appearance, but in general his debut was a failure.

What do you guys think?

the game seems to have a conflict between if he is an assasin jackal who got the phantom ruby from eggman, or if he's actually a robot created by eggman, the prequel comics only make this worse.
also he acts like a complete generic villain who sez crap about how he doesnt need to kill sonic even though he has the chance. which i guess speaks more about the writers and how little they think about the franchise's narrative or reputation for that matter
(i assume this has something to do where japanese dont have the whole hate againist angsty and edgy characters compared to the west)
, where they just throw some unoriginal and tiresome plots and character personalities.
i could feel how there is 0 passion in this game, as if the developers just do it out of necessity to get paid....compared to mania which drowns in fan love and passion, and look how succesfull popular that game has gotten compared to this because of that.
SEGA should give the blue blur a pause and just focus on some other franchises for a while, like jet set radio and maybe even burning rangers. but we know this wont happen, cuz sonic sells, no matter how ♥♥♥♥♥♥ his reputation is.

I think that's just to say that not even sonic and co actually know what infinite is supposed to be, though I'd much rather their exposition be correct, we'd have more insight on the subject of infinite that way.

The characters just think he’s a robot, because they never learn who he is. The comics and his assasin status are correct.

it doesn't help that infinite mentions data after one of the fights, does his helm have some mecha properties to it or anything? besides, what is the mask? It's nothing like anything dr. ivo rrrrobotnik would make.

Infinite most likely asked Eggman to make the mask for him. The data he mentions could be Eggman collected data, but it’s not clarified.

hmm, i guess i forgot that shadow never realized who infinite was, because he was so forgetable for him...
still, that ending he got after the 3rd boss fight was so anti climactic, i honestly was expecting him to appear after eggman lost during the final boss fight so that he would be the real one, espacily with that one cutscene that showed foreshadowing of him disaproving of eggman's actions. but i guess he had to disappear if eggman had to be the final boss using the phantom ruby, since there cant be 2 of the thing at the same time, aside from the prototypes which apparently have all been destroyed.

Infinite never had the original Ruby. He just has the best prototype. The real Ruby is used in the final boss. I agree that it should have been infinite.

I'd like to be optimistic and think that there's more to the mask than meets the eye, perhaps infinite may have an actually better untold backstory involving all that. But I'm also a realist so that's probably not the case.

They should have had a previous story where it shows that Infinite always had anger/leadership issues within his group.

He's like a Mephiles wannabe. I was really disappointed.

I expected some unknown creature, a monster, a godlike character who controls universe and everything, but all I got was some jackass wolf who got his ass kicked by Shadow and then he became overconfident when he discovered some magical rocks. His theme is still great though.

It's funny because the song could easily allude to a completely different story, it's hilarious and saddening to see how so many theories based on overanalyzing lyrics were better than the actual plot we got.

I kind of like how he isn’t just another Mephiles. Mephiles was cool, but if we had another god being who is the definition of evil again then I’d be bored. I think Infinite’s theme alludes a bit to what he wants other people to see him as, but he is clearly arrogant.

Infinite is a character who looks way more powerful than he actually is. There is a right way to handle a character like him, by having him eventually figure out that his power has limits, and that he made a pretty big mistake. He would then play smarter and try to use his illusions to make his adversaries think that he's actually as powerful as he boasts.

Instead, he's just going to overestimate himself, talk smack, get destroyed, and never learn a thing. (like zavok)

I agreed up to the point you said he was like Zavok. Zavok is “generic evil leader” with no personality beyond that. Infinite tried to be an arrogant character who doesn’t learn, and people weren’t expecting that. They could have made him the final boss, that I agree with. They could have made his story much better than they did though.
