SONIC MANIA IS A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ILLUSION
Sorry for cursing,but its true
I was playing sonic forces and then a dialogue of Classic Sonic and Tails pop ups saying that Phantom Ruby/Infinite can only create ILLUSIONS,and not portals to other dimensions and these things,so...Sonic Mania is a illusion? we dont know yet...lets wait to SEGA confirm...

Most of the returning zones in Mania are an illusion, the game ends with classic travelling to Forces dimension.

Its pretty much confirmed already. They havent said anything, but its clearly intentional.

Everyone is getting this backwards. FORCES is the illusion. Not Mania. The phantom ruby didn't send Classic Sonic anywhere, just put him in a huge illusion of a bad future.

Doesn't really make much sense with what happens in Mania tho. Like how did they get from Angel Island to Little Planet, the two places that can't be illusions?

Why cant they be illusions? Havent played Mania.

It's kinda like Classic Sonic had a long dream, throughout whole Mania & Forces.

It has to be an illusion as Little Planet exploded at the end of Sonic CD.

And no, Sonic 4 doesnt count. Sonic 4 is not a part of Mania's universe.

I don’t think Little Planet exploded. It just left in a sparkle of dust.

it was an illusion, sonic forces was just an illusion too but they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the story. just think, if classic sonic traveled through a portal and it was created by the phantom ruby so sonic forces was just an illusion too. virtual reality... episode shadow stage 3 ending conversation explains it

It's funny imagining the gang tripping on Angel Island.
And the best part is, gimmicks borrowed from S3&K fit the seemingly random order of the stages.

Marble Garden stuff in Stardust Speedway? Next to Hydrocity, which was backwards.
Oil Ocean with Sandopolis gimmick? Next to Lava Reef. Se've been playing Sandopolis this whole time!
