Classic Sonic Issues?
I've been trying to get S ranks on all the missions, and complete the time attack general missions in my log. Most of them are just memorizing pathways and getting your jumps down but I find that I have alot of issues with Classic Sonic.

It seems that classic Sonic's speed is capped at a fairly low rate, to the point that if he's going DOWNHILL and reaches an incline at the end meant to project him into the air, he sometimes actually won't be able to run up the incline and stops midway! It seems the only way to pick up speed is to actually go into a ball.

To add to this, it requires that you STOP, Crouch, and then spindash INTO BOOSTERS to pick up enough speed to get to high areas...the booster itself isn't enough.

For example, at the very beginning in the chemical plant zone (I think it's this one) it starts with a very long downhill segment into a halfpipe at the end meant to shoot you upward into some rings. If you get enough height you hit a spring that pushes you to a springboard, cutting off the bottom of that area and saving you time. Sonic CANNOT MAKE IT on his own, he has to stop at the top of the incline and spindash down it. If you spindash at the very start of the level that's not good enough, you'll lose momentum and not get enough height.

So, does classic sonic have some inertia problems?

You’re supposed to spin dash, it’s intentional.

Oh there are lots wrong with the physics, but for most time trials, I've been able to clear them easily through a combination of spindashing at the start of the level, drop dashing as much as possible, and going for the higher path.

You have to keep aerial momentum in mind. Just because you press back after jumping doesn’t mean you’ll turn immediately. And yes, those are spindash specific shortcuts.

There are no excuses for something like this being acceptable. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1199423846

You clearly haven’t played Sonic 4 if you think that’s bad, and nobody is going to run into that unless they search for it.

I have played sonic 4, and I'd much rather play that over forces' classic sonic stages.

Yeah I was going to say, there are instances in the Genesis games where you can spindash, and while charging the spindash, fall off a platform, and continue charging it then let go. That's nothing new.

The beginning of Chemical Plant Zone I also ran into troubles with. Attempting to get that time challenge was .. well, a challenge! I could not figure out how to consistently get to the top of the section after the half pipe until I stopped at the top of the ramp, spindashing at the very start, and let Sonic roll down. In other Sonic games, Sonic's roll form had a more consistent top speed, but here in Forces, it's a lot harder to reach. So spindashing and drop dashing through the start of the level won't be enough, you NEED to stop at the top of the ramp to spindash. It's not quite like other Sonic games of the past including Generations.

Classic Sonic's physics are jank and they weren't in Generations either. Possibly something to do with Hedgehog Engine 2 or just weird programming choices?

I think what needs to be done - since basically they put a speed/collision limit on Classic Sonic, and the levels don't completely account for that - is take that and the initial spindash burst and 150% that stuff. Maybe a little higher if that doesn't work.

Also, there was an unlockable thing in Generations that let you stop on a dime, they need to toggle that feature "off."
