Gameplay is good in my opinion. Classic how has rollig physics (and those who say he has bad physics can't roll) so he's better, but Modern is a bit backwards compared to Generations thanks to lack of drift and double jump instead for air dash. But OC is pure joy to play, especially when they are paired with Sonic, Heroes-style.
So I sat it's good and you should try if you like Generations.
Level design is bad. Music is stellar. Physics are quite janky. Gameplay is good. For controls....find out of yourself. Avatar customization is quite alright and a great addition to the game.
$40 is worth the price if you're a fan of recent titles in the Sonic series in general or wait until a potential sale later on for cheap.
I now have an idea of what im getting in to.
However, if you are just interested in playing through the story and DLC once or twice, then never going back, you'd be better off waiting until it's cheaper probably, as there's not alot there for people who are just interested in a single playthrough.
No
The graphics are solid and overall, look great. This may be the most visually appealing Sonic game I've ever played. Ditto for the sounds as everything from the effects to the soundtrack are pretty top notch.
The control is a mixed bag, but mostly borders on good. The player character (modern/classic Sonic or player created) still has some weight problems, but they are no where near as pronounced as they were in Lost World. This is particularly true on the 2D perspective levels where you no longer sink like a rock for apparently no reason.
The overarching story is pretty intriguing and, again, goes a bit above and beyond what's typical for modern Sonic games. The concept of Sonic being "defeated" and Eggman taking over the overwhelming majority of the world at the start is fairly original and provides a decent backdrop for the player created character.
Performance and stability have been solid for me so far. I'm running on an Alienware Alpha R1 (i7 CPU, 16GB RAM, SSD) and have the game set at 1080p with the High preset getting a locked 30fps. If I drop the resolution down to 1600x900, I'll get 60fps almost everywhere. If you're running an AMD CPU though you'll want to check compatibility, specifically to affirm that your processor supports the SSE 4.1 instruction set as currently, the game will crash without it.
Having played most of the contemporary Sonic games, I think Forces is one of the better entries especially compared to Lost World. I understand that with modern Sonic comes a *lot* of criticism from the so-called fan base. If you're still undecided, your best bet would be to watch a "Let's Play" or similar of the first 5-10 minutes of the game. That should provide all that you need to make your decision. Also, the Steam refund policy makes trying this game out for yourself a pretty low-risk affair.
