Mod names in red
So I just tried installing the BT Extended mod, and I have what I hope is a simple question but a quick Google and search of this forum didn't find the answer. As you probably know that's a pack that includes a lot of different mods, and when I look at the list of installed mods some are in white and some are in red. What's the difference?

My first guess was that the red ones require DLCs I don't have, but on closer examination I don't think that's the case. I only have the Urban Warfare DLC (not Flashpoint or Heavy Metal), but there's at least one mod that adds flashpoints that's listed in white not red, so it isn't that.

Flash points don't require you to have the Flash Point DLC. There are several you can find with the base game files, plus both of the other DLCs have flash points.

A bunch of the BTE included mods have "OptionallyDependsOn" so it could be that as well.

So what does the red text actually mean? Is there anything I should be doing about it?

I don't know what it means, sorry. If it doesn't provide info if you hover over the i or the mod itself, well, there's nothing I can tell you. You could try asking in the BTE thread on the Paradox forum: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/bex-3025-commanders-edition.1225248/page-8
Okay, thanks for giving what information you could. I take it the state of modding for this game is temporarily pretty chaotic; I just had to revert to vanilla anyway because no missions would load. One way or another, it's probably a side-effect of the same factors that are causing that situation.

Missions not loading, as well as not being able to load mechs in the mech and/or skirmish mode, tends to be the result of bad files, yeah. It'll just happily spin forever. Though BTE should work, if you set it properly.

You are using ModTek, right? And have the Community Asset Bundle installed as well?
As I recall, what I did was:

  1. Install the Community Asset Bundle from Nexus.
  2. (Go watch a couple episodes of Arrow or something, because man that was a long download :-).
  3. Download BTE from Nexus (which comes with Modtek already part of the package)
  4. unzip everything into the Mods folder
  5. Run the Modtekinjector.exe from the Modtek folder
  6. Start Battletech
  7. Get an error message saying some mods failed to load and also note the red text thing, but perhaps unwisely, try playing anyway.
  8. Get through the intro and one or two missions successfully then notice the next one is taking an awfully long time to load. It's getting late anyway so I quit for the night.
  9. The next time I opened the game and tried playing using the same save, start consistently running into the "spin forever" problem. To my recollection I made no changes to my installed mods or anything else in Battletech between 8 and 9.

I then disabled all mods except ModTek itself, deleted the save where I did 8 and 9 above, and restarted the campaign yet again, no problems this time. I've since been adding smaller mods that are not part of BTE, one at a time then playing for a while, and so far I've had no new problems.

you should run the community asset bundle last. or just run it again to update. it needs to merge files with whatever you put in your mod folder.

Seems you did right, but
Part 7 is NOT normal, BTEX install should not give any non loading mod (did it a week ago).
Did you have other mods ?

No, the only thing I might have done "wrong" was install the community asset bundle too early in the process as someone else suggested. Haven't actually tried remedying that yet.

Okay, when I first created this thread it was the issue with not installing the Community Asset Bundle last. However, I've since removed all the mods I had, then reinstalled BTEX. Now I'm getting the same problem AGAIN. I definitely did it all in the right order this time, or at least the order listed on Nexus, and this time re-running the CAB installer had no apparent effect - I still get the error message saying some mods didn't load, and those mods are still listed in red.

Succinctly put, HEEEEEEEEEEELP!

The only thing I can think of to suggest: did you do the Steam verify thing after removing all the mods? Just to make sure the game was back to its pristine state...
Bollocks it, I'm going one step further than that and doing a complete de-and-re on the whole thing. If that doesn't work, I give up on playing this game with mods :-P.

EDIT: Seriously? They censor a word as mild as that?
