Lore friendly Roguetech?
I've been wanting to get into Battletech again, and Roguetech looks really interesting in a lot of ways. However it seems to throw a lot of things at you (lostech and future tech etc) that really shouldn't be available in the timeline that the game takes place in. Is there a way to keep all the benefits of the mod while keeping the available tech accurate and lostech an extremely rare thing to come by?

Well, Lostech is going to be added somewhere in the Vanilla game with Flashpoint. I don't recall if they've said specifically how or where. And i'd assume it will be timeline consistent if they dev's themselves are adding it.

Not sure why you're talking about Flashpoint. My question is regarding the Roguetech mod and nothing else.
332Balu Nov 18, 2018 @ 3:06pm
Roguetech moves the timeline forward to a start of 3040 -ish (or so, IIRC), and introduces clans as well. Although because of the persistent online map, borders between states are different then in lore.

I think it should be possible to change occurence of LosTech in the offline part of the mod, but you most likely have to change the config files of the mod yourself.

Oh, did you not mention lostech and timeline consistency in your post? Sorry, I thought they were in there.

Oh wait, they are! So my post was on topic for what you wanted, it's just not in a mod. Okay.

I'll keep in mind to not give you exactly what you're asking for, if it's not in the exact way you want it.

Sorry what? Lostech, timeline consistency or not, Flashpoint is not Roguetech and will not have most of the benefits Roguetech has (unless I'm mistaken?) so what are you even on about? My question was obviously if there is a way to play Roguetech with the same tech rarity and timeline as in the vanilla game. Apparently there isn't, according to 333Balu. Nowhere did I criticize you, I merely stated that your post was not really an answer to my question. This overly defensive and sarcastic follow up post of yours is completely unnecessary.

If I somehow misunderstood you then please explain, but drop the attitude.

Sure there is

You just have to methodically cut every piece out in a way that you dont break the whole

At what point it would be more sensible if youd just make a mod yourself
unclecid Nov 20, 2018 @ 8:23am
most of the mods used in roguetech (it is really a colection of mods) are available as stand alone.

it should list all the mods it is made up of and you can poick and choose from there.

note - there is something wrong with random travel contracts(stand alone) and innersphere map requires it so those two are not usable.

On reddit the dev of Mechengineer said it really wasn't workable as a standalone either.
Boltergeist Nov 20, 2018 @ 2:31pm
Roguetech isnt just a collection of mods

Since the majority of parts are made specially for roguetech or are deeply implemented

As the example with mechengineer shows since it affects every single mechdef

Almost everything thats in roguetech doesnt exist outside of it in a updated working version

Or is a clock just a collection of gear? a computer just a collection of transistors and electricity?

yep it works as separete mods. but you need to install and configure it separete. not install rt and remove some mods. cose lot of link to each other in lot of ways and just deleting something will broke everething.

simple example - items. game even dont load if you delete some item and there left links to it in mech fits.

I am the nutjob behind RogueTech

Denadan is one of the coders who made a lot possible with something simple that to be used would require the same amount of work i put in

It is the argument i made, sure a couple a gears are just a couple a gears

But once put together and made to interact with each other, they cease to be just gears

You cant just make something similar by throwing the mods together, you are invited to do so though, maybe youll understand what has went into making it all work

And while were at it, that list is horribly incomplete and from the ancient times of its start

i was using it as an example.
i dont want to take anything away from the makers of roguetech....it is a great mod.

but it isnt for everyone..i tried it..and once i was able to get it worjking there were things i didnt like.
but there were many that i did.
so using that list as a basis i picked and chose what i liked/wanted and built from there.
i made myself a great (for me at least) sandbox experience running with 27 mods currently.

i was just saying that...if waht RT isnt all that for someone they can do what i did.
heck...doing that has even caused me to do a little personal modding.

it is too bad the random travel contracts stand alone is no longer supported as it and innersphere map went a long ways towards really maiking the game have greater scope.

I think he came back snippy at you because you sounded like a jerk in your reply to him.

The reason why he brought it up, is Flashpoints brings in LosTech in a way that does not violate the timeline consistency. You were saying, in general terms, "How do I get RogueTech to give me LosTech that is consistent with the time line and not all the other stuff that isn't consistent with the time line!" Darbie then shared with you that Flashpoint, the DLC made by HBS (the makers of this game) included a timeline consistent inclusiong of LosTech into the game. You then proceeded to come at him for being helpful, challenging him for bringing up Flashpoint (which has the EXACT thing you were asking for functionality wise [Lore consistent LosTech/Tech], as a core part of the DEVELOPER made game, not a mod).

Damn the reading comprehension is weak in this thread. Flashpoints add more ways to get hold of more of the lostech that broke the original tabletop game balance and more importantly the atmosphere that OP wants to get, but with the game mechanics of Roguetech. Mission difficulty scaling with company, armor repair costs, drop and maintenance costs that scale with tonnage, skill affecting initiative, accuracy penalties for jumping, etc. etc. etc. All things that have huge effects on how the game plays out even if you stuck with garden variety 3025 gear.

The LAST thing OP wants is more f-ing LosTech, so all you clowns saying "Flashpoint gives you LosTech, what else could you possibly want?" should be grateful he was as nice to you as he was.
