Infinite loading Screens and broken settings menu
Game is literally unplayable for me as of now. Clicking on any of the game modes in the main menu will cause an infinite loading screen.

Also, clicking on settings will lock me into a broken settings menu, where changes can't be saved, some windows miss text and the backwards arrow won't let me leave. Entering the Settings menu will make me stuck within it and requires a restart.

Editing my Profile also causes an infinite loading pop-up.

I have tried re-installing the game multiple times, even with regedit and Appdata folder deletion mentioned in the pinned Guide. No, I am not using mods. I bought this game 2 days ago off of Humble Bundle. Yes, my GPU drivers are up to date.

Yup, likewise. On Linux, but good to know the exact same symptoms are cross-platform so its not Just Me.

Just bought this game since it is on sale. Having the same exact problems. Infinite loading screen and get stuck in Settings menu. Anyone been able to find a fix? I've reinstalled twice and verified game files several times. Thanks.

It ended up just randomly working for me after even more reinstallations over the course of several days.

I have the same issues. Heraldry infinite loading, Language and date format drop downs are blank, and it is impossible to exit settings menu. And a new campaign refuses to load too.

After working with Paradox support, my game appears to be working now. Following their suggestions and others, here's what I did.

BATTLETECH Settings
Go into the BATTLETECH properties > updates and make sure that the cloud sync is turned OFF. Paradox support didn't say to do this but I saw YouTube videos by @TheEdmon saying that this can corrupt games.

"Clean" uninstall of BATTLETECH
Yes, I'd done this before but did it again just to be sure. This means uninstalling the game from Steam and then deleting these folders if they exist.

  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\BattleTech\
  • C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Harebrained Schemes\ (AppData is hidden by default)
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\USER_ID\637090\ (first move the \remote\C#\SGS#\ folder elsewhere to keep your save games)

If the install doesn't get rid of these folders you'll have to delete them manually

Reinstall Steam
Paradox support said the log file I sent them had 'serious' Steam errors in it. So they suggested a reinstall. I've not had any issues with Steam but figured it couldn't hurt.

  • Exit Steam completely (if it minimizes to the system tray, exit that too)
  • Moved the 'SteamApps' folder out of the steam installation directory
  • Uninstalled Steam through the Control Panel
  • Delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\ folder if it still exists
  • Go to steamcommunity.com and download the Steam installer, run it

Once Steam is reinstalled, download and install BATTLETECH again.

Now I see the opening cinematic. The opening menu has a video playing in the background (before it was just black). The Settings menu is acting as expected and I've started the game twice now with no issues. Like I said, I had done the steps of uninstalling and reinstalling BATTLETECH a few times before, so maybe it had something to do with Steam being corrupted.

Anyway, it looks like it is working now so hopefully this helps someone else.

I did a clean reinstall and it didn't help, but I thought "I better reboot, just in case" and that fixed my issues. So clean install AND a reboot did it for me. I hope this helps someone.

I was able to resolve the 'infinite loading' issue for new / saved careers only by using an exact mod load--oddly enough, not one I had installed prior to 1.9, but one I added after playing vanilla for a bit.

The problem is, I can only start / load careers with that exact mod load, otherwise I get infinite loading. It doesn't matter whether I use Modtek or the native mod menu.

All the forum posts I saw about this issue indicated it was resolved after the correct / matching manifest is loaded--didn't see anything about having to keep the same mod load indefinitely.

Could you link the forums post on that? I've not had any luck finding official responses to this particular issue. Thanks in advance

It's not an official comment, but rather someone's solution (that seemed to work for a lot of people):

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/battletech-how-to-fix-your-infinite-loading-screen-since-the-patch-modding-problems.1095485/

This may solve it, if not, you need to do a "Clean Uninstall." The problem is, the manifest file is somehow also tied up with your Steam account, your Battletech account and the system registry. Ha--obviously, I don't really get the mechanics, but the point is, a clean uninstall involving hunting down some files and reg entries will solve the problem if the first method didn't work.

If you're on linux and have issues go back to 1.8.1, That is the last version that works Fully on this platform.

Thank you for the suggestions. Fwiw, BHunterSEAL's comment is regarding an unrelated bug, and qlixed, the bug is consistent in 1.8.1 and current version both.

Sigh!
