3 major mods BTA, BEXCE and Roguetech
Use the search function - there are plenty of detailed threads explaining the differences
Lol okay buddy. Thanks for changing the tone of the conversation to a hostile one. That has NEVER happened before
Anywho, I'll keep those in mind, but I made this post to get firsthand accounts and opinions. I'd also like to choose one based direct off feedback instead of combing through posts and patch notes.
I also made this post before work, as I'd like to play the game when I get off, instead of doing research on my free time. If you don't want to have a discussion or don't have a genuine opinion based off trying those three mods, you can ignore this post and let it die out in the forum :)
Adding one of the big three is the typical way to go. I've only ever used BattleTech Extended, the others seem to try and cram too much in.
If you're not looking for an overhaul then I'd say the only essential one is Move Faster. Otherwise 'Mech movement is too ponderous (normal game) or silly (in game speed up key).

There's other things like cFixes, Performance Fix and Scorched Earth but the one I couldn't live without is Move Faster
Or just look at the front page at the ongoing thread discussing them, right? The one that has that direct feedback, firsthand accounts and opinions about BEX/BTA/RT/etc, right? Instead of creating the umpteenth post - which just makes it harder for folks to find what they're searching for, right?
The best question to answer is what do you want out of mods? What part of the game do you enjoy and want more of?
All three rely on the Community Asset Bundle (CAB) to add piles of new mechs and weapons.
Beyond that they each have their own spice:
BEX: Very few rules changes from vanilla
BTAU (BTA 3062): Lots of changes including dropping up to 15 units.
RogueTech: A LOT of changes to make it the closest to TT and the most difficult.
I was reacting to what I perceived as naivety AND the fact that there are hundreds of threads that already discuss the major mods available. A simple search that would have taken less time than your original post or your reply to me would have taken
Sorry you seem perturbed that not everybody lives and lurks through forums, nor chooses to :P. The point was to call out how rude you responded, but it seems that flew over you - that has NEVER happened before too
How ironic is it that ignoring posts that don't interest you and bumping others to keep your topics of interest above the rest probably takes even less time?
Anywho, I marked the answer I wanted. Thanks to everyone else! Truly. It's good to keep yourself in check and know that folks have better things to do with their time, so they choose to ask questions instead. Now we can let this post die in peace :)
Just ignore Pete. He is just a crusty grognard that says some of the things that many of us think to ourselves but know better than to say.
Like many that really like the game and try to help people with questions, the frustration does escape sometimes when the same damn questions get repeated almost daily.
The info here is getting outdated, but the bones are still valid:

Ehh, I get the frustration. The mocking tone was uncalled for though, especially when I thought I was asking very innocently, as I am somewhat of an outsider to the community here.
I love mecha, and have dabbled in 40k tabletop, but I by no means am familiar with battletech aside from the drama with macross, and maybe mechwarrior. Still, given mecha as a niche genre, with an even more niche IP like battletech (compared to say Gundam), I figured I'd save time in posting and asking those familiar directly.
Otherwise, I'd have to spend an afternoon on nexus mods, some time skimming through bits of opinions on specific balance choices (since I wasn't able to find full mod reviews), etc, not to mention, there's more than 1 source of info to account for. You shared reddit, others share discord, others point to steam forums, etc. Info on multiple mods is quite scattered. Then after that I'd have to install them, and finally play each.
Yes. I was lazy in the morning, but it was truly in the interest of not having to do it later. Apologies for the offense to anyone, as that was not my intention.
The good news that really it boils down to the 3 big overhaul mods since they incorporate the popular sub mods. BTAU and RT get the most support and a couple of the mod devs frequently answer questions here as well as being very active in the dedicated Discord channels so those are good choice for active support and new content. BEX is also getting updated, just at a slower cadence and I have not seen a BEX dev here.
I was actually saying I agreed with many of the facts you say. I also missed a word in there as I meant to post "ignore Pete's tone".
