MODS - On MacOS
hey all! I'm just wondering which mods wont work for MacOS?
I remembered that ModTek was something that I used to download (I have never played this game before though...) but when I download and follow instructions, I get to the run Injector part and I become stuck - apparently to run the .exe I have to install something else called "wine" - I think it is a crossover programme that allows you to run windows files (apparently)
Yet I'm a little apprehensive about downloading stuff that I dont really understand, my PC is dead and having to wait for a new motherboard to arrive so this Mac acts as a back up.

Now does anyone else run a modded BattleTech on their Mac? If so, which mods do you use??

thanks in advance btw

I don't have a Mac, but as a modder I'm aware of several mac players playing RogueTech or Battletech Advanced mods

Ah so it is possible!
I've read a few things on google but it sounded like a complete pain in the ass to do
My new motherboard arrives tomorrow, hopefully, so I'll be back to PC but might be worth in spending some time sorting out getting mods working on my mac.

It is possible and it is a pain. I ended up making a VM with BT installed there, running all the mod tools on the VM and then coping the resulting files over to the Mac. You do have to modify the Mac BT app, but you don't need wine for that, the injector app can run if you have the mono runtime installed. There's nothing shady about mono, it's just what lets you run C# code on your mac.

There was a graphic issue with some of the effects like terrain fire and mortar explosions. I had to apply the same workarounds that were recommended by the modders for Linux users.

Thanks for the info! Yeah it does look like a huge pain in the arse....maybe I'm best just waiting for my PC parts to arrive (turns out its the 20th that I get it, and not today :steamdeadpan: )

Apparently I can make my mac act like a windows PC but no idea how to do that, and I don't want to break anything! The whole cannot play anything that is 32bit is pathetic considering that not all games use top of the range graphics...

If you have an Intel Mac, you can use Apple's bootcamp utility to repartition your drive and create a new partition for installing Windows. You'll need at least 64GB free space on your drive. The process is actually quite simple and games that use OpenGL rather than Metal (such as BattleTech for some reason) will run much better under Windows.
