Any hope for Battletech 2?
I keep coming back to this game. Its a lot of fun.

Any hope that HBS will make a sequel per say? Last I saw they made the Lamplighters League or w/e. I believe a Battletech 2 would be a sure winner.

HBS was gutted by paradox and then divested from at the start of the year, but paradox kept ownership of the game and its source code.

Paradox has no interest in giving Microsoft money (for a license to do BT) as they hate doing licensed titles and primarily avoid them. HBS actually tried to get sequel green-lit for development, but paradox said no for that reason and they instead did lamp lighters. So no hope from them.

With HBS free of paradox, they could in theory re-acquire a BT license from Microsoft and rumors have persisted of them meeting with MS and PGI (another studio that has licensed the BT IP from MS, and who gave HBS most of the mech models in this game) but those same rumors suggest they were unsuccessful, likely due to financial issues. and we don't currently know what they are up to at this time.

Should HBS ever get the license again though, although paradox has the rights to this game and its characters, the overarching campaign story was made canon by CGL in an official sourcebook, which means they could make references to the canon details without issue. I would say however, that as much as I would love a sequel from them, its currently not very likely in any near time frame

Virtually none. Corporate politics.

If it was to be made I doubt it'd be under HBS. Probably would setup a new company if they are going to try again. The budget for the first game was the equivalent to a rolled up porn mag and half used carton of cigarettes.

IIRC Paradox gutted HBS. It's probably dead jim.

Given the political ♥♥♥♥ that's been happening lately it seems unlikely. Huge swathes of the fanbase seem to have jumped ship more or less for good, there's been a bunch of trans stuff shoehorned into the lore that was unwarranted and unwanted, etc. Battletech seems to be dying again, which is a real shame. People seem to have lost the ability to separate the personal from the political and that's just killing a lot of brands and franchises as it introduces exclusionary crap that just divides fanbases.

Shame. I had no idea of the goings on between BHS and Paradox. Sucks.

Also had no idea that Battletech had a mess of a social political situation. Damn shame.

Thanks for the answers, cheers!

I would love a sequel, or maybe DLC if HBS acquired rights again.

Amazingly the original material from the TT was inclusive of diversity, maybe its just people that want to exclude things that didn't play the game that far back.

Yeah right, EXACTLY, bigots crying about every bit of "woke" or whatever they (seem to) find, how about playing the game and don't givin a ♥♥♥♥ about what pronoun anyone else chooses, you can choose the one You want, and that is ALL that matters.

But sure, if for what ever rl reason, something like pronouns in a videogame makes you so insecure, you have to bash it for it, I am all for games doing it.

I think you are massively overstating the "huge swathes" part. Its funny that you complain about things being "exclusionary" as you literally complain that they shouldn't have "included" concepts and people into the franchise and lore....almost ironic.

as a very long time fan of the lore and universe, its rather amusing to see people cry about the inclusion, when its been there for years. we are talking about a franchise that has actual rules that let you add prosthetic claws, ears and tails to your character (mind you there are some penalties for such things) to turn your character into a catgirl, and even an illustration of just that. And no thats not new, the sourcebook that published those is over a decade old.

you are correct in that some people have lost the ability to separate personal from political, you are just wrong about who it is. the people who have lost it are the people who seem to think that a trans person daring to exist and try to live their lives or want to be able to participate in a community that they may have been a part of for a decade or more, but finally as themselves is somehow political. Just let them live and play a game they know and love, If you love the lore and the universe, *separate* your love for the game from your politics and just play the game.

I'd settle for a remaster honestly. Updated graphics, full voice acting. It's pretty sad what has happened to game development, when decent games can't get sequels and studios just churn out unending clones of Valorant or whatever the flavor of the day is.

Surprisingly, it looks like MekWars lives on, might give that a shot again.

People seem to not Understand what Woke means. (I dont know how they did it in Battletech, and i dont care in particulary about the Franchise). But the Saying Go Woke go Broke, isnt just some ranting Crap, its Real. The Reason many Big TV Series and Franchises didnt reach the Ones they were made for, was exactly the Woke Stupidity.

Ring Of Power, The Witcher, the New WH40K Serie by Amazon, the Scooby Doo Velmar Show.... They all Suffered or suffer from the Fact, that they are beeing Woke. Because Woke isnt "Being Inclusiv in a logical, Franchise compatibale Sense" its used as a Political tool. A lot of BIG Series dont go Woke because they Want to, because they Think its the Right thing to do and because they got Great Charakter, Story and Lore Ideas to Implement it. They Go Woke because its a Business Decision. GW for Example only does it because Amazon FORCES this, and Amazon doesnt Care if it makes Sense or not. SO for GW to Change the Lore in its entirety is a Business Decision, because they would loose a lot of Money. For Amazon its a Ideological "we have to teach people" Decision, to Set such Requierments, to Show Dominance above others. Which ends up in bad Implemented, non Logical (for the Franchise) or outright Negativly Depicitions of "Wokeness". Which is what People mean if they say "Its Woke now, its ♥♥♥♥". Because that is what Woke has become in Reality.

And the Result from that in the End: Fanbases got Split, instead of Staying together. Reducing their Influence and Power, with just a Minor Risk of Loosing them. Because MOST Fans (sure there are always hardliner, rightwinged idiots and so on) would at least Watch, Play, Check the New Stuff, once or keep going with at, even if they are annoyed, as to leave their Most Beloved Freetime Activity.

What Fans should do is Compare the Way how such Inclusivity is implemented and WHY. Just Look at the Deadpool Movies for Example, they are Hillariously Funny, they got Gay Couples and everything in it. But it never felt forced, it never felt "out of Place" for the Movies, and it was never Mentioned or Shown in "Teaching you have to like and believe that" Patrionazing Way.

To debunk your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ claims:
Rings of Power was critized by critics for being so far away from Tolkien's works. The Witcher was critized by critics for being so far away from the source material. The other stuff is unreleased yet or wasn't on my mind at all, because I usually don't watch Hollywood movies. Please quit lying.

Let's go to BattleTech. We are in the golden era of BattleTech right now and we ousted the far-right troublemakers from the official communities last year. Which was actually good and very healthy for our community. BattleTech is for everyone, not only cis hetero white dudes.

STAY AWAY WITH YOUR HATEFUL IDEOLOGY FROM OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY

And you are obviously one of them... the term "woke", in its original meaning, simply referred to white people that are "aware" of the every-day racism (not just the plain public one) and discrimination of black people in the US, and the history of slavery and racism in general. It came up in the first half of the 20th century, long before the conservative right and some "white power" factions or whatever degenerates, hijacked the term and are now misusing it with a negative denotation.

As said, Rings of Power did receive backlash for raping Tolkien's legacy, the bigotted nutjobs ranting about "wokeness" are actually just a minority when it comes to critic for RoP. And I am pretty sure, for those other examples you gave, the exaggeration and farce is strong with your side on those, as well.
