I too got the itch after the MW5 DLC and started a new turn based game. I never had used mods and after reading the primer (and reading the my computer couldnt handle the bigger mods), I chose BEX and it has been some good times.
If you want a real overhaul I recommend BEX, if you want to go totally insane you can do roguetech
