you can also get a nice AC10+++ and some LRM10 ...some range and a good punch too
The problem with a pure ac/20 build is range.. 100 per shot is nice, but you can deal more dps and total damage with other weapons at farther ranges.
You then have 16.5 tons available - 0.5 ton for a small laser in the right arm, leaves 16 tons. That's enough for an AC20 with 10 shots, An AC10 with 16 shots and two medium lasers, an AC5 with 15 shots and LRM10 with 12 shots and a medium laser, an AC5 with 15 shots and two large lasers (need to drop a ton from armor or lose the jump jets), or go Trooper style with an AC5 with 15 shots and two SRM4 with 100 shots and two medium lasers.
The 50 ton 4/6 speed mech is very flexible and has a really nice payload along with a better than average melee output. You can make most anything you like.
My ac/20 mech is a modded king crab... go big or go home ;D Downgraded the lrm to a 10 pack to add more ac ammo
But then, while AC20 delivers all the damage into 1 part... it is not enough to blow it up right away in most cases, and second shot most likely will not hit the same part...
There is also more randomness with AC20 (or in another words it is less reliable). If you miss you miss completely, while with smaller weapons missing completely is highly unlikely.
One thing AC20 is really good for are tanks, and because of this such AC20 loadouts can be really usefull in certain story missions with a lot of tanks.
Personally i prefer to go for smaller weapons in most cases (unless there is a good reason to take AC20, like tanks). Damage is higher, risk of completely useless shots almost non-existent, and to reduce spread i can always try to flank targets or use called shots.
And it looks cool to boot!
