not bad
you can also get a nice AC10+++ and some LRM10 ...some range and a good punch too

I usually like to play with range, so AC-5 + LRM (perhaps 1 ML too) and a lot of armor.

just using upgraded weapon in the standard one works well, though usually move to heavier machines afterward.

The problem with a pure ac/20 build is range.. 100 per shot is nice, but you can deal more dps and total damage with other weapons at farther ranges.

Just like every mech you first strip the equipment, max the armor, drop rear center and legs until you have an even tonnage, add max jump jets and then see whats left. I then like to pick an engagement range and stick to that.

You then have 16.5 tons available - 0.5 ton for a small laser in the right arm, leaves 16 tons. That's enough for an AC20 with 10 shots, An AC10 with 16 shots and two medium lasers, an AC5 with 15 shots and LRM10 with 12 shots and a medium laser, an AC5 with 15 shots and two large lasers (need to drop a ton from armor or lose the jump jets), or go Trooper style with an AC5 with 15 shots and two SRM4 with 100 shots and two medium lasers.

The 50 ton 4/6 speed mech is very flexible and has a really nice payload along with a better than average melee output. You can make most anything you like.

Yeah, I've done the AC/20 & SL & JJ version, and I've done the AC5+2xLL no JJ version. They've both worked well for me. The AC/5 one is a bit 'safer', since it doesn't need to charge in close and isn't all-or-nothing with it's shooting. But the AC/20 one can be satisfying when it gets the Big Hit. :D

My ac/20 mech is a modded king crab... go big or go home ;D Downgraded the lrm to a 10 pack to add more ac ammo

SRM+ML will deal 1.5-2x more damage, but will spread it across all mech without called shot.
But then, while AC20 delivers all the damage into 1 part... it is not enough to blow it up right away in most cases, and second shot most likely will not hit the same part...
There is also more randomness with AC20 (or in another words it is less reliable). If you miss you miss completely, while with smaller weapons missing completely is highly unlikely.
One thing AC20 is really good for are tanks, and because of this such AC20 loadouts can be really usefull in certain story missions with a lot of tanks.
Personally i prefer to go for smaller weapons in most cases (unless there is a good reason to take AC20, like tanks). Damage is higher, risk of completely useless shots almost non-existent, and to reduce spread i can always try to flank targets or use called shots.

CN9-A with AC20+ w/2tons ammo & 2 ML++ with beefed up armor. Done. All you need is a good pilot and plenty of covered terrain or movement to keep up defensive perks.

It's good with a variety of load-outs. Overall, the mech is just plain good. It can be an LRM boat. It can be a crit seeker. It can be a head-shot seeker. It can be a bruiser/brawler. It can be whatever you want it to be.

And it looks cool to boot!

I've probably used it most as an early game lrm boat for long range support. 2 lrm15s, 1 lrm5. ac20 is also a good option (with or without the 2 m lasers), or you could give it 3 srm6s, 2m lasers. or do something with an ac5 or 10 and whatever else you want to fill it with. lots of options.
