Campaign how long?

So I wanna do career but I feel like a lot of the lore is lost on me right now so i'm wondering how long it will take me to beat the campaign if I just go through it without doing much side content?

Update here if anyone cares but I'm now on the second half of the campaign and I'm absolutely loving it! Definitely made the right choice to go with campaign first. Put campaign battle on hard but left everything else on normal so I don't struggle too much with cash as I'm learning the game. after beating the campaign I will probably either do a warm up career on hard with economy on hard or go straight for roguetech mod. I'm still reading up on the mods but I'm a HUGE fan of the long war xcom mod so I'm sure this will be my thing too.
It says I've got about 40 or so hours although i do minimise the game sometimes to do some programming. I've been doing some sidequests here and there until I get the main missions and I sometimes do an extra quest here or there but most of the time i go straight for the main missions when I get them.

I cannot STRESS HOW BAD an idea this is. You do not need to know the lore - it helps - but it's not necessary.

How long is a piece of string? It will depend on how you learn. Having a tabletop background is helpful but not necessary and will make it easier to advance.

It is possible to have two saved games - one campaign, and one career. Play them both and decide which to keep playing based on your enjoyment level. It's not exactly rocket science.

I think you just need to play it and find out instead of asking silly question, am i right guys

There are 10 story missions, and I think that you must do at least 2 generic missions between each story mission. It's usually better to do more to improve your pilot skills and equipment from salvage that you get from winning, but you don't need to grind a whole lot by doing tons of side jobs. I think that a fair guess is that it'd take at least 40 hours to complete the game from start to finish.

All you do in career is 'side missions'. Mission difficulty is based on star system. No progression, it is sandbox mode.

Campaign includes story missions which when done advances the difficulty of the side missions and opens more of the map. There is progression as you do story missions.

In 2018 I played the game normally at no special pace and stopped once I did the main questline. This took 50.1 hours playtime. Am thinking of re-playing because this was a good game.
