Which is better:GOG or Steam
Should I go with GOG or Steam for the pre-order? I'm not sure I want that Shadowrun game it looks bad . I would of backed this game but I learned about it way too late. I am just wondering if the Steam version has any extra DRM .

No extra DRM (I still have my backer beta working, because I copied the game's folder before it was taken down)

The store page just lists agreeing to EULA. I don't buy new games on GoG due to delays in patches getting to gog, and some games never get final patches.

I prefer GoG as a company but I have all my games on Steam and it's easier to get MP games going on Steam =/

As far as mp with this game, it will be handled through Paradox's servers, and cross-platform.

Oh ♥♥♥♥, I read his question as a regular question about which is best. Missed the part where it was about this game only =)

GoG is doing a lot better these days and the stuff Eisberg has some really valid points. GoG also tends to have way better quality control in general. Multiplayer is cross platform compatible so you can play with people on steam still from GoG and even people that get it on Mac and Linux

I would go Fanatical.com. Gives out Steam keys at a cheaper price. Battletech is 20% off currently.

Just want to reinforce what Eisberg said about patches/updates -- If you use Gog Galaxy the patches tend to come out at the same time, or damn close, on both platforms.

Also about Shadowrun Returns, it's got the most inferior story (in my humble opinion) of the three HBS Shadowrun releases, but that doesn't make it bad -- it's an ok game. And hey, more turn based tactical combat is always better, right? :P

I'll just get the steam version, and buy a few of the RPGs that I want from GOG like Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines and a few others. I wish GOG had some of the old Mech Commander games I would of liked to play them while waiting for this to release.

It's a personal preference really. GoG is growing so there might not be issues of losing your games if it goes backrupt anymore. I keep steam because most of my games are on it. No other special reasons.

i love both. i usually go with what is the better deal really.

side note, if steam sells a ubisoft game for example and they have the extra layers with UPLAY built in, and i see the gog version dosent have that, im willing to pay extra just to not deal with that crap on my computer.

so i would always pay more in that instance.

If i have the choice, i usually prefer GOG. There i can download my games and save them on a hardrive, if i want to do that. I really own the games on GOG in a sense, whgich isn't always the case on steam.

Of course with multiplayer games, steam is propably the safer option.
And many publishers don't give you the choice anyway. Also Steams platform is of course superior in many way and they have many more people using their store.
That said i chose a GOG-Key when i baked my game.

Simple algoryth: does it release on gog? get it there.

Between having a patch backlog so you can roll back to a more stable version, no extra DRM and the ability to download and keep instaler kits that don't need any sort of online activation so if the service ever goes bust you don't loose your game collection or ability to play, GoG is just the superior platform.

It also has a far more sane refund policy than steam's "oh you played 2 hours? You must love this game, no refunds!".

So in simple terms: GoG actualy lets you OWN the games you buy, where steam only rents them out to you under strict control through DRM. GoG's refund policy os a perfectly fine 7 day no questions asked refund, 30 days refund for serious reasons, so you know you can test the bloody game and not be stuck with it because steam might as well not have a refund policy for how retarded it is. GoG let's you roll-back patches and choose not to update, Steam does not.

Oh, and patches don't come late as some people seem to think around here, that is a thing of the past.

you know you can switch your harddrive for any game at any time, so you can copy your game with steam as well and use them on other systems, all you need is install steam on the other system.

You still need steam with many games (not all) , while with GOG games, you don't need GOG at all. It is a DRM free store after all.

I would generally perfer to buy games on GOG, but my bank has a few issues with sending money to a Polish or Russian bank. That said, any game that I plan on playing MP at any point with friends would be an instant Steam perference.
