Oh, I checked again. It says "Partial Mech Salvage". Good thing I asked.
Paying 1M for one part, that would hurt, especially, when I don't have the other two parts.
And if you do buy salvage, be wary of salvage for different models of the same mech. For example, you can't mix MAD-3D salvage with MAD-3R salvage.
(not sure if it's the variant i'm thinking of, but one of them always seams to have parts in the first area that unlocks (after you do the pirate moon mission)
Grabbing one of these early, loading on a AC20, SRM4's and a couple lasers. the mech works extremely well in the early game. Heck i run it late game too, but early game it really makes the game a lot easier.
The big problem with this mech is people look at it like an assault. It's not, it's a well armored heavy. Compare it to mechs like the Cataphract or something along those lines.
The problem with some of those are they are much rarer.. the victor is's pretty easy go grab before you even get to the prison as they show up often if your just flying hitting planets and making cash on your way to the prison you can have one by the time you show up.
Some mechs are worth buying, like the Lostech mechs. You will never get a chance to salvage them, because they will not appear on the battlefield opposing you. You will get a Lostech mech as a reward from a campaign mission during the campaign. That doesn't count the second one you get for completing the campaign.
Vics (at least stock Vics) are glass cannons, to be sure. But if you can get them close enough, a 20-cannon is still a 20-cannon, and the jump jets are useful for getting around tight spaces; urban environments, that one desert map that' has lots of little canyons.
I've been playing since Steam launch and there were always Assault mech parts available as far as I can recall. Not that you could afford them...
I'll grant you your point, in vanilla, which is why I've stopped playing vanilla. The initiative system is garbage, and there are some great canon variants that arent in the base game that make the Vic an absolute beast.
The 9 and 12delta variants both replace the 20-cannon with a Gauss Rifle, the 10delta has a UAC/20, the charlie-romeo variant has an HVAC/10, and some insane genius stuffed the 10sierra with not only a Gauss Rifle, but a Heavy Gauss Rifle. In this game's terms, that's 255 points of damage and 57.5 points of stability damage if both hit.
There's even a canonical variant called the Victor St. James which refits a 9kilo with a damned Long Tom.
