"I Thought You Were Dead" Hidden Achievement
So I got the achievement the other day but I don't understand why Dekker? Was he supposed to die at some point?

No he's not supposed to die - but if you keep in the stupid Spider longer than the first real mission the your should be charged with murder!

Is it bad I put him in the Locust?

I thought the achievement got put in when Dekker died at the hands of a Dev's " how to" Livestream much to the relish of the bloodthirsty audience.

It makes sense really. He's given Sensor Lock right off and presented in a fast light mech so a novice players first instinct is to keep him in fast light mechs. End result is he probably died a lot.

A Steiner scout would be better .....

I have never understood the meme myself. Is Decker supposed to die more than any other Mechwarrior? No clue.

Decker always was my pack leader for the late game. He already has sensor lock so I end up training him fully in that tree and assign him the first heavy and assault I get simply because it end up the only way to have such slow mechs act in a timely manner in the initiative.

I agree - I make the same choices - it would appear that some players have been deluded into believing that Dek's starting spider is a good mech...

Its a good mech to reduce monthly salary costs

I often use a light mech to scout or if possible, one of the sensor-equalent medium mechs.

I didn´t play since 2 years due savegame corruption after an update with >200h gameplay.
So, in my new gameplay, I sell the spider and guess this archivement is gone for me, hehe.

Actual hes in my crab

By being completely incapable of keeping its pilot alive?

Hmm. I think I recall my first Dekker dying very early on. No idea if he was still in the Spider or not.

None of my later Dekkers died, because I fire him & the other guy immediately. (yes, I run all-female crews. Because I feel like it. /shrug)

re: the Spider. I remove it's jump jets, max out it's armor as much as possible, and only run it until I can get a Jenner or Firestarter. Which might be awhile.

Also, remember, many of the "omg, Dekker died!" stories came from 1) early in the campaign, when there hasn't been a chance to replace the Spider yet; and 2) early in the campaign of brand new players who didn't know the game inside & out. And also in the early months, when the chance of headshot was bugged higher & all the other patches you have now didn't exist yet. ;)

I'm a fan of this idea. I want to eventually do a BEX career run with an all female all Canopian crew.
