Trudging for literal hours across a map to get to a fight
Im sick to death of this im sure you are too it makes me NEVER take escort missions cos i have to make hundreds of movement clicks just to get there almost every time its boring its pointless its stupid and its really bad game design are there any mods that remove this kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from the game?

BTA 3062 does not remove escort but they improve it. They drop smoke to mark the path as well, but the path is short. But you were playing this mod. I think it was too hard for you?

Playing Career Mode sucks sometimes. There are metrics that you have to consider on every navigation. You need to plan to hit at least 4 new systems with a jump within 15 days. And to max money, review board, contracts... You need to do all the missions on a planet before your next navigation because you only have so many jumps that you can perform.

Skipping those escorts could potentially cause you to fail short on one thing or another. I feel you. I dislike missions where I have to travel miles to get to my target. Which means I eject my vehicles and try to line up my Marauder IIc on high ground to have targets with their ER PPCs. Frickin' Logistics.

Huh. How are escorts taking you so long? Is it all of them, or just ones with 4 slow tanks (so that the last group of enemies doesn't spawn forever because it takes too long for the first tank to get to the exit)?

Not sure I've seen one of those go past ~18 or so turns. And they're still pretty quick, because a bunch of the turns are non-combat turns. I spend most of them moving 3/4 of the lance ahead so they're in position when the last enemies appear.


Personally, I just skip missions I don't like. But escorts I mostly do (outside of Lunar & Martian) because they're relatively safe & quick cash.


edit: ah, this is for vanilla or BEX. Not sure if other mods make them longer.

i have xompleted sucessfully literally hundreds of escort missions in BTA and vanilla and the vanilla campaign its not too hard for me its just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ and MANY of the escort missions in BTA envolve huge amounts of walking simulator

LOLS i have in fact fallen asleep many times during missions like this its the LRM carriers that only move one hex at a time its infuriating

Anyway i was hoping someone would say yes theres this great mod that adds new maps and more fun missions but i guess not thanks anyway

Oh and i loaded my first vanilla game today that i played years ago and found i had 50 million credits 4 stalkers and 4 Atlas Mark 2s but i have no idea how the hell i managed that cos in my current vanilla game im getting my arse handed to me constantly and in BTA i have all the best mechs millions upon millions of credits and i still cant complete half the flashpoints i find my self rage quitting for the billionth time after i get squadwiped or once again totally fail to save Lady Arrano from bloody drones FML

if 3 minutes seems like 'literal hours' then perhaps turn based strategy games are not your cup of tea.

And Mechs move more than 'one hex' per turn, even the biggest mech with the lamest pilot.

You know, if you're going to complain about particular mods & edge cases (BTA + the slowest tanks in existence), maybe say that in your OP, rather than making a big blanket rant that sounds like you're complaining about all escort missions & in the basic game.

Reading Comprehension, requires there to be something clear to read.

If you min/max your company into all heavy/slow units, this of course means you are also maximizing your walking time. If you wish to minimize walking time, don't go full slow. Also, I believe at least some of the escort missions auto-complete when all of the opfor is eliminated.

They might, but you can't eliminate opfor until they've spawned, and the last group of them (often, at least?) doesn't spawn until the lead convoy vehicles enter the destination zone.

Yes, this is true in my experience as well.

In vanilla not 1 of the maps is big enough to make a game last 20 turns, in a convoy mission.

To put this in perspective I use Rogue Tech I play with the largest map size available which is twice the size in every direction as the standard game. I use heavy mech as my most common mech with a walk/run speed of 3/5 about the same as vanilla heavy mechs. Unless I use really long winded tactics a convoy mission is over in 20 turns.
