The Coil-L works very very well with the Assassin very early on as it doesn't matter a lot (still does though) where you hit other light mechs, if you don't kill them right away then at least you break a side torso or a leg. You really want two very important pieces of equipment: a Rangefinder++ or +++ and a Gyro++, both will mitigate, directly or indirectly, a lot of damage, as some foes you'll be able to hit them with your LCoil while they won't with their ML/SRMs in return. Then if you can put your hands on a couple DHS (I still don't have them) the better. And that's it, at least for me. Hit & run, all the time, walk in and sprint out. Take your time and don't rush. And of course, don't use JJs, this is not a mech for that. I do use them in my Centurion, because it's much slower, doesn't generate as much evasion, doesn't need walk speed to deal damage.
IMO if you're going for missiles or MLs I'd go for a different medium mech. The ASN has not much available weight and the Coil-L seems hand tailored for it.
