Systems with earliest assaults
While I ran into one before liberating Panzyr, near the Free Worlds League space, now Im at Taurian space after said Panzyr mission and even 4 skulls assasinate missions only have heavies around. Personally, I would love to place my hands on Victor or Battlemaster but looks like they are Federated Suns assaults and I cant access their space yet (and I see only mission for them, never against them). Or Taurians actually dont field assaults? Does this have any impact on what mechs enemy will field?

Where to hunt for assaults at this point of campaign?

I mean Libertating Panzyr? That a 2-21/2 skull mission and you already went after with Heavies? I had only ran into 3 heavies, a Quickdraw, Dragon and a Jagermech and was lucky to get that Dragon by then. K9 being my newest as well.

Anyways just follow the Storyline, you get a Free SLDF Highlander HGN-732b Assault mech and a chance to salvage a Battlemaster, Awesome, or a Zeus.

a good point to farm AssaultMechs requires you to have quite a few c-bills saved up. Down in the lower right corner is the Hellespont-System. Not sure how many you will face at that point in the story, but you can generally find all assaults down there.
The only one i never encountered was the Atlas, for that i had to go to the FedSuns after the campaign.
Quite a few c-bills? Is 17m enough?

Best system for me was the Brinton system or something like that. Its the closest system to Aurigan Space (northern part of the territory). Missions are all between 4-5 stars. In my first playthrough I got my battlemaster, Atlas and Banshee from here, not to mention plenty of ++ weapons.

Its a planet that had a plague on it.

Edit: Meant to add that is in the western part of Taurian space.

AFter getting my first assault mech in the story missions, right after that my next random mission was Detroit, and I got my second assault there. RNG.

Update: After two story mission a 4 skull mission back on Taurus had two King Crabs, needless to say I have one now, my first and so far only Assault mech this campaign. I did see a Highlander too but I cored it so only 1 peice. Though Taurus has been pretty good I also got two Grasshoppers, while not assults they are really good mechs.
I tried Tauros, Brinton and Hellspont, still nothing.

For some reason game hates me and there are NO ASSASINATIONS, ever. Only one rolled out in some system near Tauros, 4 skull and it still fielded heavy as target. I already have all mediums that can be encountered "wild" and all heavies as well.

Im pissed off, to be honest. Im jumping around, doing missions to keep balance positive and hoping to get some battle or assasination with 4 skulls and up but without luck.

Of course, I can bet that if I would start doing story missions, I would face off only heavies instead, just like now I face tons of mediums.

At what point in the story are you? The further along you go, the higher the chance of most enemies being 'upgraded' to heavies and assaults.

Right after the 2 main quests at Smithon, I came across an Atlas in a 3.5 skull assassinate.
Up to that point I had been faffing around trying to collect all the light and medium mechs, though, so the company was rated at 3 stars.

It seems to me, the more skilled your pilots, the more "upgraded" your opponents.
I run my B team, and the enemies tend to be in damaged mediums ... running my A team, and I"ll see assaults.
Small data size, so take this as unconfirmed anecdotal evidence.

Earliest for me was an Atlas (with Locust "escort") in a "Stubborn Surrender" on Zathras right after doing the Pirate/Argo Rescue mission, but before Liberating Weldry. Took a while to take the pilot out with only 4 mediums...

Right after liberating Panzyr.

I DID meet one assault before this mission, during assasination in space not bounded to any fraction but thats it.

I have noticed this as well. Storyline I am on Graverobber, but my pilots are all 4x10. It's hard to kill even heavies now, when just a few game hours ago it was not.

IIRC before the “Graverobber“ mission I never encountered any assault mechs at all. After that they started appearing relatively frequently on 4 and 5 skull contracts.
Just do the story missions until that mission and then stock up on assaults.
