Is king crab better than atlas?
I noticed that there are far more people use king crab than atlas, heck I'm yet to see youtubers who play this game use atlas, while plenty of them use king crab.

Why?

Because of more Rocket Slots ^^.

King Crab has a better array of hardpoints. The Atlas gets 2 ballistic, 4 energy, and 2 missile. Of the four energy hardpoints, two are on the CT, rendering one unusable if you intend to use any kind of gyro (which you should, always). So essentially 2B, 3E, 2M.

The King Crab has 2 ballistic, 4 energy, and 4 missile. The missile hardpoints are all on LT, so it can't be used as an LRM boat, but beyond that it can be armed more heavily than the Atlas. Furthermore, while the Atlas has an energy hardpoint on each arm, the King Crab has a ballistic hardpoint on each, meaning your important weapons get the +1 accuracy bonus.

lol i use 2xkc in my main lance...one of them indeed as a missle boat (3xlrm15's) all with jump jets...and i have an entire lance of atlas's as my JV lance (one of them as a missle boat with 2xlrm 20's)...the nice thing about the KC and/or atlas as a missle boat is u can up armor them and leave the entire right torso and right arm empty to be used as a shield if needed

i find the kc has better weapon slots but i actually prefer the atlas as it looks cooler and has better melee damage

Atlas is nice if you are expecting to get your arms incredibly ****ed up by postgame firepower.

Essentially it is 'tougher', and the AI can't use called shots to specifically aim for your side torsos instead of your arms if you spread the damage around. You can tear both arms off an Atlass and all it has lost is 2 energy and 2 support.

The King crab is amazing, and is more suitable for ace custom hand tailored builds (Or, you know. sticking with near stock because dual AC20s are always Just That Good). When you know you've got the advantage in either tonnage or tactics, crab is probably going to be your best bet.

But an early atlas can be a godsend for if you want your B team to get experience outside of a sim pod without putting your + variants at risk in the process.

Nothing is better than an atlas. Never has been, never will be. Well... except for maybe new atlas's.

Atlas is better at punching people in the face, even when it's got no arms left.

...Hey the direwolf has an XL engine, right? Man, they would be so screwed even if one showed up this early somehow in HBS Btech land.

4x SRM6 +++ with +4 damage mods on the Crab... 12x24 or 288 damage + 120 from an AC20++ is almost a guaranteed core-kill every called shot (even on assaults). I know every shot won't land in the called spot position, but it seems like most do, and if the AC20 ++ hits, I know the mech is going down.

Imo, SRM6 +damage weapons are hands down the best in the game. For their weight and heat they are the best, AND they do stability damage as well. For one ton of weight for ammo, they get to fire almost 17 times, which is also a better ratio than AC20/5 times, etc...

I never was able to get an Atlas during the game, it wasn't until after I finished the main story that I got one. I had a King Crab before I got to the last story mission and I left it stock but with upgraded ++ weapons. If you have a Lancer pilot in it that thing can tank anything and laugh while chewing up the other mechs.
