The setting itself was never at all similar and the 'Mechs behave quite differently, have a different role, etc. These facts are the reason there is an ongoing legal battle, even now (and have been legal disputes for decades).
In this game they do not. There is a type of mech that is canon to Battletech that changes form called the land-air mech, but these aren't in any modern Battletech franchise game.
Practically speaking those things make first-rate deep echelon raiders.
