bring back the old mech assault, mech warrior and mech commander games
this looks cool and all but its just like the mech commander 1 & 2 which i might add is also from the battletech universe. mech assault 1 & 2 and mech warrior 1,2,3 & 4 with their expansion packs are also from the battletech universe which brings me to the question why the hell havent they re-released the old battletech games????????????????

Mechcommander 1 and 2 have been legit free for awhile now

I like to forget Mech Assault was a thing.

Mechwarrior 1 is kind of a weird one

Mechwarrior 2 and its expansions I remember were hellish to get working on Win 10, but probably the best candidate for a legit remake imo.

3 and 4 I think are in the same territory as Mechcommader, but not entirely sure about that one.

Good luck getting those to run on current hardware though. Recently tried replaying MC2 and got that 30FPS "bug". Even with the known fix that is supposed to resolve the issue, still happens anyways. Mind you, I'm on a W10 battlestation and had no problems before. Probably tied to my GPU(1080Ti) because that card eats most games and you must sacrifice the older games to appease it. :P

Really wish someone would re-approach that series. The game had it's own RNG, but at least it gave you a reasonable chance to get decent mechs. I found always that game fairly interesting. Not to mention the pilot videos were always cool. Only downside is(back when I could get the game to behave itself) that the pilot videos would freeze if you were playing too long. My guess is it was related to the setting in-game conflicting with the fix(since there is an in-game option to disable said videos).

Honestly nothing beat getting a single Madcat(with other light/medium 'mechs in support), loading it up with armor and clanner equipment, and beating the tar out of the clanners.

Looking back, kind of suprised that the Battletech animated series never got a game(yes, I know its a TTG, but I mean a PC game). It got toys(which I thought at the time were cool, but now, looking back, were really, really poorly made). And I know there they made one for the genesis that was not only a pain in the ass because wierd controls and a mech that went down too easy, but was kind of a niche game. I got exposed to the series reading the rulebooks/lorebooks or codex or whatever they call them in my reading class(donated to the school).

As much as people gave that series hell because it was an RTS and it not being a "true" mech/battletech game, I still enjoyed it.

TealDeer: Whoever owns the series now(last I checked it was MS because IIRC, FASA got absorbed by them) should consider re-visiting it. Or at the very least, letting an experienced indie team take a crack at it.

if you can bear having poor grafix and no singleplayer, try MEGAMEK NET.
1-1 recreation of the Tabletop, for free, online campaign with the whole inner sphere etc.

I got MC2 running on my Windows 10 machine, can't remember exactly what I had to do though, think it was a matter of compatibility mode and then changing something in a settings file while also replacing some of the graphics files that had been fixed in some way, either way the instructions came from google and worked!

I honestly, prefer SP games myself. Tried the MW series once ages ago. Lost interest because so many buttons presses(do enough of that daily tyvm). IIRC, way back when, a company had made some accessories that worked with those games.

Hence why I defaulted to the MC series. It was pretty PU&P and didn't need you to remember stats or roll simulated dice. All that mattered is that you do your best and try not to get anyone killed. While trying to get that one mech you keep missing out on in the missions it appears in....

Oh and to the original poster, this really is nothing like Mech Commander, turned based strategy versus RTS, drastically different mechanics, even the mech lab is only superficially the same.
The only thing really similar is the basic merc company story concept.

Same here. For me, it was needing to deleted the old/bad.card files, and for a while, that worked. It stopped working when I changed cards. But to be honest I went from AMD to Nvidia, so maybe that was the issue. No clue. When I get some time off from work., I'm going to try fooling with it some more. Am honestly looking foreward to seeing games like that on my 55".

MW 2 is really easy to run with dosbox. You don't bother with windows. You dosbox the thing. The windows version is only slightly better, not worth all the extra trouble.
MW 3 is the real problem GL. Unless you run a virtual OS or install special drivers to emulate old hardware, this will be a disaster.

I'd love to see a mechcommander remake though. Too bad it'll never happen, because they made this instead. This game sealed whatever fate that had of seeing a new game.

I don't know this is a completely different owner, Microsoft have the rights on Mech Commander (or did have). I to would love to see a revamped Mech Commander, still one of my favourite games.

That said I absolutely freaking love this game! so pretty happy this has been made as well :-)

I would love a new Mechcommander.

I can´t get the original one to run on my Win 10 PC, and OmniTech does only run in softwarede mode with much visual lag :/

Lets hope they will then :)

Any games on pc like mechwarrior online without the online part? quickplay so slow to get matches, & needed all 24 players to get ready....

Mech Assault was a horrible game turning Mech Warrior into an Arcade shooter.
I say bring back something like Cresents Hawks Inception. A full flegded RPG where there was Mech combat and non mech combat.
Tempered May 9, 2018 @ 10:28pm
Battletech: Crescent Hawks Inception had the best turn based mech combat. You could plot out every step and exactly at what point in your move you wanted to fire weapons.

Another fun part was playing the stock market.
