question about overheating pc
i had shutdowns while i was on this "choose your background" screen in the very beginning,
and i can reliably reproduce it by simply staying on this screen.
but i could play this game on a free weekend, so i thought
"whats different this time?"
gladly i remembered back then i clicked very fast through this screen to see the gameplay.
so i gave it a try and it worked, played two missions without a crash:gorge:

so the question is: are there other parts/scenes/screens i have to look out for?

What are you specs? Overheating PC screams a hardware issue and might be some significant problems your end. Does it happen with any other game?

To be honest, this game is horribly unoptimized, and half the time I wonder what it is doing on the long loads, long pauses just to look at my mechwarriors or a mech. For a turn based tactics game, it should not be this horrible. But it is fun, so I put up with it.

This is the only game in my entire library that I actually hear my CPU fan turn on, or my GPU fan turn on. I have a new video card, a XFX Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5. And my CPU heatsink/fan is all copper and takes up the whole inside space of my full case.

clean your pc...

Overheating means your PC doesn't have enough cooling. As P30 says, clean all the dust out. You can also add more fans or bigger fans. As for software workarounds, maybe make sue you're running an fps limiter to keep your GPU from maxing out. Beyond that, check the thermal paste and heatsink condition on your PC as well.

I would recommend you turn on vsync using your video cards controls - FPS may be running wild on that screen - I believe ( am not sure ) in game vsync controls only work on combat screens

I had that issue when I first started playing BT. Turns out the fans in my CPU are broken. I ended up buying a small floor fan and put it over top it and run it anytime I start up a game so it doesn't turn off due to overheating.

Coming from the pc hardware industry this is common practice for testing. I have seen games with various fps related issues, when Dawn of War2 came out the fame crashed during cutscenes and i did see my hear increase but not by an alarming amount. Turned on the fps monitor and the little animation for my ship jumping yoyod all over from a couple hundred to a couple thousand fps, no way to know of that was accurate, but when it read about 2k for more than a couple seconds instant crash to desktop.
Launching Painkiller when it was like 3ish years old caused rubberbanding as well as noticeable increase in heat for all parts i had monitors for, and this happened right before a ctd, vsync cleared it for both. Normally im not a fan of vsync for a few reasons, but in turn based they dont matter and outside of that sometimes thats what it takes to play a certain fame. Then there was nvidia 196.75 drivers and starcraft2 when it was new, sc2 lobby was hitting 400fps and some cards werent reacting as they should it it and overheating.

All of the other cleaning advice is very likely a good idea but certain combos of drivers hardware and settings can cause this, turn on a program that has a ingame overlay for fps monitoring and see for yourself.

i know my cooling subpar, it´s the airflow.
the hot air gets stuck below the gpu.
so the whole system is hotter than it needs to be, but i´ve never had problems with this.
i mean i bought metro:exodus in this sale too and have no problems

but as i said i can play battletech without problems too, it was really only this one particular screen that would cause this.
i watched it with my gpu overlay open and could see the temp rise and rise to the safety shutdown.
in game it stays between 60-65°C.

for now i´ll head back out into the periphery. just claimed my ship from these pirates

but i will try forching vsync, just to be on the safe side.

thanks alot fellow commanders, o7

This game is a heat generator for me too, idk what is up. Two different windows installs, one very fresh, stock clocks on i6700k and amd 290x, GPU with aftermarket cooling goes up to 85-94c on any graphics settings in the "click to battle" screen or several maps. Most games take the card to 70 max.

If you have an Nvidia card you can set the max frame rate in the Nvidia settings on a per game basis. If it is a video card overheating this will help. No reason to go over 60 frames per second in this game.

There are a few screens that kick my 2070 super cooling into high gear for some reason.

As a owner of 2 amd cards 480 and 5700 XT limit Put a limit on your game like 30 FPS no point in it running so much for a game like mechwarrior.

Look to limit other games so keep your machine running cooler and more stable.
