Here is your Eject button.
Also, if you tank your Pirate rep down to Loathed, prices in the Black Market will be too high to reasonably buy anything.
How soon do I refit my mechs? Immediately. First thing I do when starting a new Campaign or Career is to rip something off the starting mechs and increase their armor, ideally to max on the front. Because removing equipment, and adjusting armor, takes 0 repair time.
Like, with the Campaign mechs:
Spider - remove some/all jump jets
Vindicator - remove LRM+ammo
Shadowhawk - remove either LRM or SRM + ammo (depending on if you want it to be short or long range)
Blackjack - remove one AC2.
Locust - sell. :D
Beyond that, I'll start to upgrade them into better builds while traveling between planets.
Blackjack - rip out the other AC2, add an AC5.
Vindicator - replace the PPC with a Large Laser & more Mediums.
Whatever you decide you want, but working at it constantly while traveling (and in between needed repairs. But I've got enough practice that I don't need to do major repairs in the beginning.)
Figure out which skills you like the most, then build your pilots & mechs to take advantage. Everyone on this board has their own personal favorite setups. My generic lance is two pilots with Bulwark / Sensor Lock / Master Tactician, one pilot with Bulwark / Multishot / Breaching Shot; and one pilot with Bulwark / Sure Footing / Coolant Vent. But I've got backups of all of them, so I can mix it up if a mission calls for it.
(Master Tac pilots are all-arounders, the Multi/Breaching pilot goes on my rear-support long-range mech, and the Sure Footing pilot gets the fast jumpy mech.)
Ok. /shrug
They don't make where it is obvious, that is for sure.
They even make you eject in the campaign tutorial, but rather than have you find and push the button, they just stick a big button in the center of the screen and disable everything else; seems like a missed opportunity.
