No black market event?
I've read elsewhere that the pirates are either supposed to offer you access to the black market or ask if you want to pay for it. Supposedly this happens when you are en route to a black market planet. Well, I've been to numerous black market planets and still no offers...is there something else I'm supposed to be doing?

Not sure. So far I've had two such events, both asking for far more money than I had at the time to buy into it.

It's kind of luck based but you need a lot of money depending on your reputation with the pirates.

Look in your Events JSON, there are 4 Black market chances after you reject them with a build in delay of a year every time you say no.

That's encouraging. I haven't played in a while because the fans on my graphics card took a dump, and I'm looking at DIY options to fix that.

Ok I see the files, but not sure what I'm supposed to look for there. Definitely have not seen those events pop up; dialogue looks completely unfamiliar.

How long have you been playing the game (game days of course)? It's random and it can sometimes take awhile for one of the events to trigger. Also if you say no then that event won't come back around in game for awhile.

I started a new campaign and played about 375 days, then re-started an old campaign (which was almost 600 days in), and played about 200 days in that one.

It's only relevant to the actual campaign you are in. The big question is how is your rep with the pirates?

That's not a lot of time really. One of my careers I didn't get the black market invite until it around 1,000 days. Of course in another I got it pretty much immediately.

i had mine fairly late during the story, had to pay 2.5 million because i killed all the pirates

Your rep only affects how much you have to pay to join.

On my original playthrough, i didnt get offered membership until after i'd finished the main campaign, something like 1400 days.

Being liked by pirates does sortof double the odds of it coming up though. Specifically it adds a second "join the black market" event into the event pool.

How do you stay on the pirate's good side long enough to get to the black market? My last playthrough I WANTED to be a pirate, and was actively looking for pirate contracts - I was going to play a money-grubbing blackheart, only in it for the cash. Trouble is, I couldn't find nearly enough pirate jobs, and in taking other missions for cash, I ended up working against the pirates more often than not. (I had originally tried to avoid this, but in the end decided that roleplaying someone who was only in it for the money would also include working against pirates...) Just not willing to pass up a big payday just because I have to piss off the pirates, any more than I was worried about pissing off the opther factions, I guess... :)

Anyway, ended up hated by pirates again. Not paying 2.5 mil early in the game just for access. So still haven't seen what the black market has to offer (although the one comment I saw online seemed to imply it wasn't really worth it anyway...)

Depends on what you draw from the random pool each time you arrive at a black market planet, when you get the invite in your game and what you want out of it. Some people want the best of the best no matter what and if you have a lot of plus gear already it might not seem worth it. For me it was a good source of plus equipment that salvage wasn't providing when I got the invite.

Woot! Finally got a third in transit invite when I could actually afford the buy in (2.4M), yet on my way to a mission that may well prove far too much for me to handle at the moment. Perhaps sometime tomorrow I will see if it was all worth it.
