Is it worth buying partial mech salvage?
I'm new to the game and be playing around getting to grips with the combat. I wanna build myself a heavy mech and i kinda wanna try out the thunderbolt. So I been around kept seeing thunderbolt parts and I grabbed one. But now I can't find any others lol. Do they reset every time I jump to another planet? Or is there like 1 part I don't know per group of planets or something?

they do change, so if you have the money and see a part you want, grab it.

I typically wait till i already have a 2-3 parts already, then buy the final pieces. (my current game is set to 5 parts)

another good tactic is to play missions in the 1-2 skull range, and go full C-bills, that way you can bank up 10m or so, and have it read to buy parts you want. Sometimes you can buy full mechs too. they did reset the stores a while back, not sure if faction zones or planets effect what is in the store outside of weapons. Someone else might know though.

there are mods, or were mods that did make the stores/zones more faction related.

Like one time recently i salvaged 3 parts of a treb and i had one already., and made a jump to another planet, and it had the last part.

another i salvaged 3 parts of a maurder, and by chance there were 2 more in the store so that was good.

Basically RNG is a thing, so a bit of luck can go a long way. It does kinda seam like certain planets are more likely to have things, but i don't have a list.

If it's for some OP mech (Marauder, Atlas-II, ...), yes. And that also includes the Griffin-2N, because (if you have it enabled in settings) it comes with a full array of DHS. For other mechs not so much. Although if you have the cash there is no real reason why not.

That is how I tend to collect heavy/assault mechs. I’ll have 2/3 pieces and I’ll buy the last one so I have more firepower available immediately rather than playing 10 to 20 missions hoping to get the last one.

Well i'm not sure if I need one right now I only just started the story. But all I have medium and lights and I must admit most of my initial struggles were getting to grips with the game and tactics and I think a lot of fights can be won with what I have. But I just want to gun up for the incoming future lol. Oh and I have a lot of money too so I can afford all 3 parts and still have lots of money left.

Take into account you should have a few million at hand for buying the entrance to the Black Market (if you haven't already done it), which you'll want to as soon as you can, and also for buying def Gyros (2+ million) and probably many of ML++ (dmg), ERML++ (because they fit in a lot of builds) and also some SRM4-6+++ (also quite versatile).

As others have said, it's a great way to secure the last part of a mech you've salvaged. Also useful if you are hunting for a specific variant for completionist reasons.

I had the chance to buy an Atlas HT for 25 million but I also had the option of buying 3 pieces for 4.5 million. Same mech, 20 million or so cheaper. So, yeah, it can be worht it

With the current state of stores, if power is what you're after, you're best off focusing on cash from contracts early, and buying those parts, rather than relying on salvage. So yeah, the parts are worth it.

That said, I think relying on salvage rather than stores the first time is overall the better choice, in terms of game duration/feel, rather than using the stores to leapfrog the difficulty curve. The buying is better saved for later, when you're more interested in trying out a particular playstyle/idea rather than experiencing the game/story for the first time. But that's me, and you might think differently.

Well, not necessarily the same mech if you have the option set to not get fully stocked mechs. Then one is a mech that has lots of LosTech, and the other is an empty mech.

You also have to consider the randomness of the game. What is your chances of finding that mech in a battle?

For example I can probably find Warhammer cores in shops faster than getting them from battles. Especially when you start factoring in each variant has different cores.

Consider also that to salvage a mech in battle, you first have to BEAT it in battle AND try to avoid blowing out the torso so salvage actually drops AND hope you chose enough salvage rights to TAKE all the pieces that drop. Tradeoffs...

You still get salvage for blowing out the torso. Not sure what the issue is here. Or are you only talking about salvaging the whole mech?
(in which case, all of use playing with it set to more than 3 parts can't do that in one battle anyway)
