I typically wait till i already have a 2-3 parts already, then buy the final pieces. (my current game is set to 5 parts)
another good tactic is to play missions in the 1-2 skull range, and go full C-bills, that way you can bank up 10m or so, and have it read to buy parts you want. Sometimes you can buy full mechs too. they did reset the stores a while back, not sure if faction zones or planets effect what is in the store outside of weapons. Someone else might know though.
there are mods, or were mods that did make the stores/zones more faction related.
Like one time recently i salvaged 3 parts of a treb and i had one already., and made a jump to another planet, and it had the last part.
another i salvaged 3 parts of a maurder, and by chance there were 2 more in the store so that was good.
Basically RNG is a thing, so a bit of luck can go a long way. It does kinda seam like certain planets are more likely to have things, but i don't have a list.
That said, I think relying on salvage rather than stores the first time is overall the better choice, in terms of game duration/feel, rather than using the stores to leapfrog the difficulty curve. The buying is better saved for later, when you're more interested in trying out a particular playstyle/idea rather than experiencing the game/story for the first time. But that's me, and you might think differently.
Well, not necessarily the same mech if you have the option set to not get fully stocked mechs. Then one is a mech that has lots of LosTech, and the other is an empty mech.
For example I can probably find Warhammer cores in shops faster than getting them from battles. Especially when you start factoring in each variant has different cores.
You still get salvage for blowing out the torso. Not sure what the issue is here. Or are you only talking about salvaging the whole mech?
(in which case, all of use playing with it set to more than 3 parts can't do that in one battle anyway)
