Where can I find the Hatchetman? (i.e. where should I go looking for one)
I recently deleted a half-finished (although probably not even half to be honest) play through of the campaign and started again, when tonight in a random contract I did I came accross a hatchetman and managed to kill the pilot through a knockdown, ammo explosions and a hit to the head.... but unfortunately I may have gone overboard with the alphastrike that got the killing blow as the follow up srms blew off the side torsos on the mech so I was only able to salvage one part. Because this is still reasonably early game (like just post-weldry), I'm still looking to get more medium mechs and the hatchetman looks really appealing, is there anywhere in particular where one would expect to find hatchetman parts appearing in shops or the mech itself appearing in contracts?

Not sure about shops but they do just pop up random in missions.
I am playing in career mode and got one early - They are a bit fragile armor in stock config . I solved this by dropping the AC10 to a 5 freeing up enough tonnage for Max armor and an arm mod to up melee damage

hatchetmen appear in 2-3 skull missions (mostly 2). they are considered "uncommon", so they appear in about 10-20% of the missions. just keep grinding.

alternatively, you can add them to shops if you want to mod some files.

If I could send them to you from my game I would. The minute I get a complete Hatchetman chassis I sell it. Cool idea, but it needs an urban setting to keep it alive long enough to bring the hatchet to bear.

One good way to make mechs pop is to focus on mercenary and pirate opposition forces as they have random mechs from all factions.

edit the movedef file so the movement speed is 180 walk, 300 sprint.

still less than a jenner, but enough so you can sprint evade and make it to your target for melee.

i found them very useful. get medium lasers +++ and replace the ac10 with an ac5+++ so you can put more armor on it and some melee actuators, and you can snipe while you advance into melee range.
