BATTLETECH

Difficulty Level
I recently completed the campaign, I took my time and got some decent mechs and the best equipment. Now that I'm at the end game, I wanted to go back and try some of the lightest mechs and level up some new pilots, just to keep the game fresh, but all missions are now four skulls.

Once you complete the game, is the difficult level just locked at near highest? If I want to go back and use light mechs and new pilots, do I have to start a new game?

If so, this seems like a really poor game feature. I don't always want to fight in assault mechs and heavies. The tactical challenge of using small mechs is always interesting to me.

unforturelly yes u have to reset game, there will be some 3skulls down the south west of the start map in the gov zone. (not sure if location is the same for everyone) but its a long flight if your in the north of star map. most 3 skulls have meds.

You can go all the way back to the four starter planets. They has the lowest difficulty. Lower enemy strength in difficulty. Hope you saved up, because the contracts are unlikely to pay enough to sustain your fully upgraded Argo.

Well that is very disappointing. Don't really want to just keep grinding endlessly in assaults and heavies until some new content arrives.

I have around 55mil saved up from cruising around collecting mech frags and selling them. At this point I'm not interested in how much money I have saved up, just wanted some new (old) content to keep the game fresh until some new content.

Thanks for the replies.
so, now u have a few option 1 play the game to archive all the steam archivements or 2 play the game and use your imagenation to keep you entertian or 3 what for the new dlc in november which then it will force you restart. or 4th play muiltiplayer test your skills agianst other players.

Has it been confirmed that any new DLC content will force us to restart our progress?
i give u a challange. use 4 jennys and 2 for long rang and 2 for med range and fight the 3 skulls that should test you for a while it took me a few goes to do it. (battle mode)
well logically it should.

Been a while since I've played but there used to be a line in one of the .json files that was called max difficulty variance or something and you were able to adjust this to make any level of mission show up. Of course this was best if you turned up the number of missions per system as well. I don't know if this information is still valid but there is a guide with all this info on steam.

No, it hasn't. Well, at least for the first DLC, Flashpoint. (And logically, it shouldn't need you to restart, since the Flashpoints are a major expansion of the random contract generation system, not a new story campaign. That said, I'll be starting a new campaign for it, as I have for every major patch.)

Now, if they make a DLC that has an entire new story, I'd expect it to require a restart. But we don't know what/if any DLC beyond Flashpoint will be. /shrug

I would challenge the skulls system as a measure of difficulty.

Turns out the skulls aren't much more than a measure of weight in this game.

Do you see many deveolpers speaking for future patches or DLC here confirming their features? Nothing is confirmed until the DLC is out, I afraid.

An option is to install a mod allowing to change mission variance parameter, there's a couple at Nexus called "adv difficulty settings", put it to 7+ and here you go!
As this mod don't change any rule you could continue with your game.
I couldn't live without it ... Else as you point out you just can get 5 skull fights vs assaults once campaign is over.

No you don't, Madman's information is not reliable. Go to the Starmap in navigation and look for systems with 1-2 star difficulty and fly there.

I have looked at every system. The lowest is Detroit with three skulls.

The DLC for Flashpoints will surely have some kind of difficulty slider? Or are they likely to be based off of your current campaign progress, so that any Flashpoint you choose is in line with your mech strength?

If there is a difficulty slider, then that makes things far more interesting.
