Licensing the basic models from Piranha Games and merely adjusting them for things such as melee combat simply allowed HBS to create a more impressive game than if they spent a much higher portion of their resources creating the models completely on their own.
The info is years back so hard to confirm now but if I am remembering correctly this saved them a pile of time and money.
Some tank/vehicle models created by HBS are shown in Pgi's video of their new MW5 game also for free. So it may be more you do me a favour and I will do you a favour later kind of deal.
my opinion of course...
Yes, some of the PGI models are different to the original designs we know and love but that is not all bad. Some of the PGI designs are quite good.
There is a problem about the unseen mechs and hopefully that can be settled in court because having access to the unseen in the game would be very nice.
well, tbh, i don´t care who originally designed it... my point was that the PGI design is much better... which applies to quite a few other MWO ´Mechs as well...
PGI is also getting 3D models from HBS in the form of vehicles/combined arms for MW:5 Mercs. I think they're concept designed by Duane Loose too. Which is pretty rad.
there´s also a new starter box (coming?) for the board game as far as i know, and it also uses these models ;)
i don´t mind at all ;)
Are you sure it'll use PGI's designs? Last I heard CGL was going in their own art direction with battlemech illustrations. If they'll be using the PGI models that'll be great because they'll match up with this game, making them nice collectibles :)
Not available for preorder yet but should be out sometime this summer.
If you google Battletech box set 2018 you should find pictures of what Catalyst is showing off at the games expos.
