Play around and gather Moar Stuff, try a new campaign, or play something else until a DLC comes out. :)
2) Get a 400 tonne drop done
3) Find cool stuff like guass ammon and fancy heat sink type equips
Can get Guass ammo, heat exchangers and something else heat convertor or something I believe
And cool ++ / +++ items
...and play with fun things like the sleepy snipper awesome
Once I'm sert up well enough for that, I simply start a new game. I like the early-game feel of being a mercenary struggling to make ends meet.
I´ll hope there will be some DLC soon. Really good game so far.
And they keep offering missions I can't do in that system all the way to the Southeast with a very-rare comstar presence. Very curious about that. Only 86 merc points to go.
There is extremely good shopping in Capellan space. Yuris, Hurik and Victoria in particular if you're not looking for anything specific. Like New VandenBurg good but a higher quantity of rare item slots.
The best items you can find are thermal exchangers. They make energy-centric builds a lot more interesting. I was able to build a sustainable quad PPC on my Atlas 2 with the best one (I've since rebuilt - it's nice but too specialized and no JJs). I got sick of looking for the exchanger and updated the drop odds in the JSON files to find just one after 7 game-years of legit-searching.
Fun stuff:
AC/10 Kaliyamas ++ (70 damage - lethal headshot viable against full armor like the gauss rifle) - great range over the AC/20 with almost-gauss-damage
AC/20 Kaliyama +++ - not nearly as hard to find but +20 damage/ 20stability
PPC++ with +30 stability damage
H Laser +++ +3 accuracy/+10 damage
sLaser +++ I forget the stats but they're amazing
all SRM+++es
LRM+++es but awfully common in my experience
I think my next experiment will be a crit-over-damage-focused mech. It seems like I hit a lot more ammo explosions than I used to and I'm not sure you have to pierce armor for a crit. AC/2s have a +50% crit version.
I managed a sustainable quad with +30 stability PPCs. Could alpha at least 6 times judging from the bar buildup (that was on a Tundra though). Never got to that many shots : )
Keep an eye on number of mech salvage/mechs, rare non-weapon gear, and + weapons you see as you shop. They always have that many rare items. 7-9 is on the high side. Brinton (I think that's the southeast-most system) has 10. Refresh happens on financial review I think but not if you're in the system. Make note of worlds that have very few item-relevant tags and a lot of rare slots. They have their uses.
Manufacturing adds a ton of mechs and all kinds of other stuff when combined with research, SLDF, inner sphere, and rich. I believe rich and inner sphere are meaningless without manufacturing.
Research and SLDF also have their own independent lists of stuff they add and this is convenient because each adds ++ and +++ items from different manufacturers. Research for the Kali Yama/damage-boosting cannons.
Battlefield and mining combine with nothing and add lists of mechs (battlefield might be busted atm).
Black Market adds a list of + and ++ weapons across all sizes.
And every faction has its own base list and two manufacturing-dependent tiers that require rich and then rich/research.
So, if you want big guns, the SLDF/Research worlds without manu in west Capellan territory are a good bet.
The rarest items like the higher end exchangers require inners-sphere + all or most of the tags here other than battlefield, black market, and mining. Because they are in such a massive pool of items, they are very hard to find.
Worlds without manufacturing have massively reduced pools so can be a great place to find stuff from the base faction lists, research, SLDF, battlefield, etc...
For instance, I keep using them as an example because I was hunting AC/10 + or ++es from Kaliyama. Both do enough damage to pop a head from range making them a poor man's better-than-ac/20-range gauss rifle in many ways. Pipalpa in Free Worlds has 7 rare slots, battlefield, and reseearch. Research has the ++, marik/free-worlds has + on its base list and the only other non-general item list comes from battlefield. This is a very good planet to find head-popping AC/10s, because 7 rares is excellent for a world with only one added item pool to the two you'd want items from. And any Free Worlds shop could have the + so you get a chance on each trip. Manufacturing worlds might have additional lists with overlap but they add so many other items I doubt the odds would be better.
