Secondly: They weren't ripped off, they were purchased.
edit: I'd also like to add that it's thanks to those Gold Star ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that we'll never get real SDF Macross here in the States.
Should HBS win the lawsuit then we'll probably see them in an expansion or patch.
Too bad about all the rancor since I don't care about the drama. I just like the cool looking mechs and wish they were in the game.
It doesn't take much effort to find out why HG is nearly universally dispised. They have no talent beyond meritless legal actions over content they never owned or created.
There is a cartoon show called Robotech. You may not like it, but it is so. Please confine your political outrage enough to avoid senseless hyperbole. I'm not interested in it. This is rapidly devolving into a fact-free zone.
This. Thank you.
No that was an accurate description of Robotech, the Cartoon/Anime. That was the intended point.
The art will not be modded. It would have to be created. Lots of the original mechs from Macross, Dougram and Crusher Joe are making it into the game. Only a handful were pulled at the last second due to legal concerns. But in early trailers we saw the Marauder and the Warhammer mech. We also know the art for the Rifleman and Archer are available as HBS has the artwork being used by MWO for this game. Just as HBS is sharing with PGI the artwork for vehicles.
So some of the anime mecha make it into the game. It has been redone by Alex Iglesias of PGI so passes the trademark/copyright test of not being straight copies of the originals. HG is currently dragging the new court case out as long as possible. PGI and now HBS have asked for a dismissal with prejudice. Meaning they both feel there is enough proof to show HG has no standing, knows it has no standing and this lawsuit is without merit. Such that if a Judge rules that, HG would owe all costs and never be able to sue on this subject again. PGI and HBS asked for this dismissal based on HG's own earlier court cases where it showed they did not own the rights to the mecha at all and those are owned by Big West. The Japanese courts have also shown this to be true. The company HG purchased rights from did not own them so HG has never owned the rights to the artwork of the mecha.
So in a nutshell, all the old Macross mechs will probably be in the game eventually. Some are in now.

Don't care.
That's good news. I guess I'm a little worried because of how the Locust looks in the game currently (and I don't recall if the original Locust was from Robotech/Macross...). I definitely don't like this weird snub-nose look that's in the current game compared to the old under-turrent look it used to have.
Those old designs just have so much more charisma and character than what I've seen so far. I wouldn't be against new designs if only they had something to distinguish them. These designs currently, especially the "spider" and "blackjack", have nothing going on and are frankly uninspired. I don't blame the developer for this, of course. Just that I found the choice of canon a bit baffling without knowledge of the background circumstances. Really hope everything works out for the best with the game.
