Well, first of all, you're not going to get another one with a Gauss Rifle or any other Star league tech. It will still be a great mech, though, no worries.

The best place to look for them is in Capellan space, on what would be the northeastern border on a normal map. It's "Coreward" and "Spinward" in battletech parlance, meaning the towards the galactic core. And I mean the northeastern border of the Capellan confederation. Not just northeast. I don't mean to insult your intelligence, but some people get these things confused.

Highlanders are produced in the St. Ives compact, which is right around there.

Thanks for your answer. I'll go look for it at once :-)

I found my Atlas and extra Highlander (not to mention my battlemaster, banshee and stalker) all on Brinton and a couple nearby systems in Taurian space. These planets usually have 4-5.

It's pretty random.
Best chances are in Assassination missions, or in high level (4-5 skulls) "combat" missions, like "wipe out enemy lance" and such.

I just got another Highlander and Atlas last night on a 4.5 skull base defense contract in Weldry. The first wave was a bunch of weak heavies that I one shotted with alpha strikes, and the second wave was a fully armored Atlas and Highlander 733P (along with a couple of other heavies that I one shotted). The fully armored assault mechs are much easier to capture since you can just knock them down without fear of destroying their CTs and alpha strike the side torsos for extra pilot injuries. The contract allowed for 6 pieces of salvage (never saw that before), so I got to keep both the Atlas and Highlander. Before that, I kept on doing every single 4/5 skull mission and kept getting stupid tanks or waves and waves of heavies. I almost gave up looking for them to finish the campaign. Feeling a lot better now with my 380 ton lance. Hoping to get 400, but eh, not a huge deal. Might go and finish campaign now.

Taurian space is great for tougher mission contracts and Davion actually pays rather well.

I got mine in Detroit. Look for Assassination missions or the ones where you fight the old mechs. If you play out those missions in the "baby" starting areas and the opfor are pirates or old mechs, you stand a high chance of seeing enemy mechs with depleted arnor.

I also found that assault mechs stumble into my sights in the mission right after a story mission.
