Final mission
I just unlocked the final mission, and Darius warned me that I would have to field more than one lance for this one. Considering that the whole game revolved around one optimized lance, I'm a little bit puzzled, because I have only 5 mechs and mechwarriors at the moment, and I'm afraid I'll have to farm experience and salvage to be able to field another lance.

Those who have finished the game, how many lances do I need for this last mission ? Is two enough, or do I need to fill my mechbay with 3 lances ?

Main reason is the last mission (set) is pretty much locked, so make sure you have backups to swap if you get too damaged moving through the last mission set, as you don't have downtime to repair, if i remember correctly.

However you will never in the main story field more than a lance (4) unless someone mods it in, so 4 is max ( and remember her highness when she decides to jump in takes 1 of those 4 slots). Hopefully someone can get back confirmation of what I typed.

The final mission is broken into two parts and you don't get a chance to repair between the two parts. However, it's also one of the easier campaign missions.

One lance is enough, as long as only one mech gets damaged enough to require repairs in the first part. In the second part Kamea will be joining you, so you'll only be using 3 of your mechs.

I was running a Grasshopper, 2 Battlemasters and Stalker going in and it was overkill, so assuming you're running something similar you should be okay.

As said the last mission is a two parter. The first part is much harder than the second however, I won't go into much detail just be prepared to face a few assault mechs.

Thank you very much for your helpful answers, I'll definitely try it right away with my current setup. The way it was worded, I was afraid of something similar to FFVI last dungeon, like deploying two or three lances at the same moment in different places, then playing all of them in turns.

I had the same question. I have 5 assaults (active) and 5 pilots. If I understand correctly that is more than enough?

It should be yes. With that setup you need two mechs and two pilots to come out of the first mission and be ready to go again.

you need 2 full lances the first lance should imo be assault mechs the second lance should be heavy mechs use your assualt mechs for the first part and your heavies for the second ironically the final battle is very easy if you just flank and kite well and use your jump jets

I finished last night with full assaults (I have 5 3 KC, Atlas and Highlander i think it is called). One of my crabs took a bad shot and I lost a AC/20 +++ I had 1 pilot injury but all else was fine. First part is much more difficult. Now to start playing with mods and get some Los Tech weapons and not feel like i'm cheesing it since I won the game fair.

If you need two lances your tactics need to improve.

In my last campaign I went in with 1 Assault, 1 Heavy and 2 medium for the first mission and then left behind the medium that took damage for the second mission.
