How does ammunition work?
Does anyone know if remaining ammunition in a pack gets put togheter after a mission and try to fill out a new pack, or you if you fired at least once you might aswell empty it because that pack is now used?

Ammo, like armor isnt really something you deal with in the game. It is all factored as part of your mechs monthy maintenance.

The equipment you put on your mech, or that you salvage from the field, isnt ammo. But its the bins and feed mechanisms to make your weapons work. You will only need to replace those, if they get destroyed in combat.

So no, you dont need to keep like 20+ LRM ammos in storage. You just need a few for replacements and future upgrades.

Ammo is free until the pack is destroyed.

From my experience it seems a ton of ammo is considered "used up and lost" if you fire it all in the mission. I found myself running out of AC20 ammo in storage because my Yen-Lo-Wang kept coming back with a empty gun after a mission, but i still have 2 tons of gauss ammo (8 shots per ton) in storage because i never fired more than 6 or 7 shots in a single mission

This. All ammo bins are refilled for free after combat, so you don't need to replace them unless they got shot to pieces by critical hits.

You could say the monthly maintenance fee covers the rearming of your ammo-using weapons... just a thought =)
