As noted above, you get mech parts as loot, and need three parts to make a mech. It'll come with the default set of weapons for that model once you do.
If you just blow a mech to bits by smashing the center torso, only one piece will be available in the loot list. If you eliminate the mech by breaking both legs, two pieces will be available. If you eliminate it by killing the pilot -- all three pieces will be in the list. Of course, if you're only getting two pieces of priority salvage based on what you negotiated, you might not get the third as a random pick.
Well that depends on how many Story Missions you do, if you've only done the Argo and prison missions you won't face Heavies (99% of the time anyway)
1: Take out the CT
2: Take out both legs
3: Take out the head
4: Cause more injuries then the mechwarrior can handle by knocking them down repeatedly, blowing up RT/LT and by causing Ammo Explosions. Sometimes you can take a mech out in one salvo to the RT or LT, 1 injury from the Side Torso being destroyed, 1-2 Injuries from ammo explosions and 1 from being knocked down to stability.
